Morning, booklovers!

Off to make myself a shake. Then I gotta go to the post office to send a letter with some coupons. If they pick my letter, I will win a trip to London to the royal wedding Fingers crossed!

Would search for the link but am at work currently and need to get back to editing a manual.
When you get a minute the link would be very much appreciated. Ta.

This study seems to be the one you're referring to. It shows that Yerba Maté consumption may increase the risk of Squamous Cell Esophageal Cancer by 50%. But if you also drink alcohol and smoke tobacco a lot, the risk increases 600%.

"Subjects with high cumulative exposure to maté in the presence of low alcohol and tobacco exposures presented a lower-risk estimate (OR, 1.52; 95% CI, 0.88–2.62), whereas those with high cumulative exposures to maté, alcohol, and tobacco presented a 7-fold increase in esophageal cancer risk (OR, 7.10; 95% CI, 3.75–13.46)."

In short, the risks of cancer from alcohol and tobacco seem to be enhanced by Maté drinking.

Thanks a lot.
I guess, that drinking an occasional cup of Roasted Mate is not too bad then. Although, I won't order it again. I don't drink it but my wife does and she is a teacher, so she talks a lot.
There are plenty of other teas and tisanes to enjoy.

Thank you, I'm very happy with it People are also starting to notice. Yesterday I bumped into someone I hadn't seen in a while and he asked me: "hey, have you lost weight?" And of course the difference for me, especially while running, is huge. Desertblues, make sure you enjoy yourself at the congress! My dietitian always tells me it's OK to sin and enjoy some good food sometimes

Keep in mind that the people who drink Yerba Mate in South America carry around thermoses of hot water to refill their gourds all day. When I bought my Yerba Mate gourde, the instructions were to pack the gourd 3/4 of the way full and then listed how the taste would change between the first steeping and the 20th steeping.

Seriously. 20 steepings.

Yerba Mate is a great coffee replacement for the non-caffeinated stimulant reason but it also provides a good amount of nutrients and an appetite suppressant. It became a daily part of the peoples diets because it was a less expensive way of feeling full, getting nutrients, and being able to work.

You would have to drink a ton of any beverage at a high temperature to be worried. Even my 4 Liters of tea is not dangerous because very little of it is actually consumed at 208 degrees. Smaller gourds, 3/4 packed with Mate, being refilled regularly means that they are drinking more hot liquid then we are.

YEAH!!!

I stepped on the scale the last two days to see the number 168.5 It has been a long time since I was in the 160's. The last time I was there it didn't last. I would like to get to 165, maybe even 160 and maintain the weight loss.

Pot two of Rooibos Lemon.

I just refilled my travel tea set. I'll have to take a picture of it. It is a nice wood box about 1 foot by 8 inches. There are 13 cigar type tubes inside the box. I just filled the tubes with teas for a weekend trip that the Hubby and I are taking. It should be enough to get me through a couple of trips coming up over the next few months.
