New very pleased owner!

I’m a proud owner of a Cybook Gen3, bought on the 31th of January and received yesterday, the 6th.

I bought the normal package and the leather cover.
I was a bit worried about spending so much in the cover but, as many have said before me is totally worthy the money paid.
Still at home I just use it without the cover… I’m fascinated by Cybook’s thinness and lightness… really something indeed (even my htc 3600 pocketpc phone edition is heavier!)

Up to now, so far so good, not much time to read, but managed to get it up and running, loaded eBooks into it, tested Pdf’s, Text files and Html’s… it’s everything everybody as been saying and more.
No problems with the buttons and the OS is really fast and intuitive, reader programs run smooth and accessing the machine as a “drive” is easy.

I will be participating more around here, and I wand (done that already in the presentation part of the forums, but it’s never too much) to say a big THANKS(!) to all of you who help everybody who visits these forums (ex: helped me a lot in my decision).

I will be asking some things too, and here goes the first question:
The pocketpc phone I mention above (htc 3600) as a mini USB wall charger.
As this machine charges from a normal USB cable from a PC I wonder if I can use it’s wall charger to charge the Cybook? As someone who as one tested if it works?
The thing is, the charger says: output 5V - 1A
The Cybook says: input 5V - 0.5A

Tank you very much in advance and best regards,

I believe that the charger states its *MAXIMUM* output, while the Cybook only *draws* the power stated while in charging mode. Thus, the charger isn't strained by the charging process. I wouldn't want to slap a 5V 16A device onto it though!

It certainly wouldn't hurt. It won't draw any more than it needs. You plug your shaver into a 15 or 20 AMP outlet all the time. Does it suddenly burn up with all those AMPs? Usually when plugging into lots of AMPS it is a good idea to have a fuse in case of shorts.

The charger should note the max. output and the cybook should note the max. current drawn. So, as long as your charger can supply more current than the Cybook draws, everything should work out fine. That is, as long as the plug fits, the Cybook USB port is incredibly slim...

Yep. The charger Bookeen delivers as part of the De Luxe package is 700 mA. That fits with the max current you're allowed to draw from an USB port, 500 mA.

Marco.

Thanks!

So it should be no problem.

I confess I have not tried it out because it draws so little juice that sporadic charging keeps it filled - just loading books, deleting them and making tests keeps it at 100% all the time.
Probably I will not need to even test it at all... will see...

Best regards,

I've charged my Cybook with the charger that came with my pocket pc and it works great! (I was a little concerned because Bookeen's website states that the use of non-Bookeen accessories could void the warrenty).
