Oh, that's right. You're the one who doesn't consider audio books from the library to be 'digital downloads'

I can see this this will end well.
Good thing I like you.
I did find a more satisfying response to these kind of arguments:

"Readers are expensive"

I feel since I started this topic as Kindle at the beach the topic has now become about how readers are expensive. Maybe it should be renamed? LOL.

I've taken my reader out on a few trips now, not to the beach mind, but out to the park though I still don't like doing it there are some nutters where I live (cue the black guy walking in front of me reciting the lords prayer and then singing about Jesus and Mary and then approaching complete strangers to talk).

However it's nice having such a small reader as the SONY PRS350 as hardly anyone knows I have it, it conceals quite nicely into my jacket pocket. So I can take it out where I feel safer such as on a train or anywhere else I like.

Readers are expensive? Yes and maybe no too. I think they are reasonable, especially when on offer, my Sony reader cost me the same as a wifi kindle (£111) and it's generally more expensive than that kindle. I think the case was expensive in proportion to what I am getting for my money (a nice case with a light) that almost cost half as much as reader. If you love classic books its a great investment as you can get all the classics for free (maybe a few exceptions). If you love books though and you like to hunt for a bargain it's not as good imo (from my small experience of investing in ebooks) as many sites match prices to their competitors. However in the UK you can goto charity stores and pick up great books for a small charge (though it depends what you read whether or not you find what you like).

I am also going to a bookcrossers club this week and you can't trade ebooks, all my books are away being stored and I knew of a book I love that was on an offer so I bought a new copy for that of Brighton Rock though I have a lovely old copy somewhere, I just don't quite know where right now. Just some things I was thinking about, don't know how my post got so long!

since Kindle doesn't have any touch screens, wouldn't know about that. I have noticed that if my fingers are really cold, sometimes my android won't respond to them

I've noticed that too. I'm pretty sure that I have something called Raynaud's Syndrome. I've always had huge issues with cold weather and keeping my hands warm. Every winter I would try to find better wool lined gloves, sparing no expense. Sometimes my gloves cost more than my coat. I finally found a pair of leather mittens that kept my hand reasonably warm and I could drive in them.

Yeah, I would love this thread to stop the "show me yours, I'll show you mine" (wallet) party, which I still think is pretty indecent, and go back to the original question about Kindle on the beach (which is, now that I think of it, in itself also indecent... A Kindle ! On the beach !!!!! ). Anyway.... So guys and gals, apart from the ziploc solution, anyone ? (was going to write "martini, anyone ?", but let's not get carried away )

I, too, use the dry bag that I got from amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Version-Trendy...2121228&sr=1-1

With this, I can take my nook kayaking, to the beach, camping, and I'm not worried about sand or it getting wet. The zip lock isn't heavy duty enough for these uses, I don't think. I want to be SURE there will be no water or no sand getting in.

As far as leaving it on the beach to take a walk, I do it. I just tuck it in my bag, and stow that under a chair or towel. Depending on where you are, I guess, the only ones that seem to bother people's stuff on the beaches I've been at are the sea gulls looking for food! Or you could just take a lightweight shoulder bag on you walk with you and keep it with you, like you might your phone and money....
