The chemicals used to bleach the inks out of newsprint is evil, in the last few years they have gotten better, but it is in my mind still better on the environment to use recycled papers only in areas where they don't need to bleach out the inks. You would be surprised to know that a lot of products that say "Printed on Recycled paper" is BS, they print that on new pulp paper all the time, in fact they make a line of "New" paper that they colour grey, so it looks like recycled paper. Isn't ecological product marketing fun? |

The reason we start a war is to fight a war, win a war, thereby causing no more war.
I was proud the other day when both Republicans and Democrats stood with me in the Rose Garden to announce their support for a clear statement of purpose: you disarm, or we will. You only get one George W Bush |

GREEN FOOD
1. If your lemon pie filling leaks through the shell and makes contact with the tin pan, both will turn green. Go buy some glass pie pans already. Sheesh. 2. To stop your boiled eggs from getting that green aura around the yolk, start them in cold water instead of boiling water, so that they heat together. Then, as soon as the water hits a rolling boil, turn off the heat and let the eggs sit on the stove for 15 minutes. This works about 50% of the time for me. 3. Fried green tomatoes are delicious. |

Did you know that "factoid" means "item that looks like a fact but is not a fact."
It was coined to refer to made-up blurbs in gossips rags presented as true reporting. Like all other "-oid" words, android, meteoroid, alkaloid, it means 'similar but not the thing...' It's a pet peeve of mine that people routinely use it incorrectly to mean "little fact." Why not "factlet" or "factette" or just "fact?" When you say "Here's a factoid for you..." you are saying "Here's a lie..." . . .Or are all the statements in this thread false, and I missed the gag....? ApK |
