It's only $25 savings... I can't even get the non-lighted Amazon cover to go with it.

Maybe before i had my K3 i would consider this. It only features ads on the screensaver which i don't care about and i still have the default screensavers up till now. I don't care about the home screen either which i barely spend any time on since i am always reading a book. Ads on kindle are still alright since they do not interfere with reading itself. I fear the day we see ads in ebooks themselves. |

Ads on a Kindle. Not a chance they'll get my $$. But then, they're (Amazon/Kindle)not getting my $$ without the ads either. |

Well for one I'm in Australia so I couldn't get one if I wanted too.

Ads? Well probably not. I know it doesn't interrupt the reading process, but just having the thought that I purchased a $114 mobile advertisement box from Amazon wouldn't sit well with me. If someone finds a way to hack this, I reckon there will be big sales as people could get a discounted kindle. I somehow think the way it works though is a range of serial numbers gets ads, while the rest wont. Reduces the hacking risk if the ads are controlled by Amazon and not some setting on the kindle itself. |

I really need to know more about it before I could say.

First, I hardly ever turn my Whispernet on. Is leaving it on a requirement of the new Kindle? Second, can you install the Screensaver hack on it? I realize Amazon's answer to that question would be "Um, the point is to look at OUR screensaver-ads" but I'm interested to see what the hackers come up with. Also, I'm a little worried that an upcoming update might break our current hacks. Third, could care less about the ads and would prefer not to be bothered with them but the discount Amazon gift cards caught my eye. How frequent will those be? |

I ordered one. Simply because I just want a back up kindle for my DXG. I wrote this month earlier and stated that I was nervous my kids would damage my DXG in the car or on the go. I ended up buying a refurbished kindle but decided to return it and spend the extra 5.00 for an ad kindle. It's not going to be my main reading device and I simply want something that easier to carry around with me, and won't devastate my wallet so much if it does get damaged.

Also it's a good option for parents who have kiddos that was a kindle 3, but aren't sure they are responsible enough for the more expensive devices. My six year old loves to read and is constantly asking for a reader, however I haven't bought him one yet because he is always taking apart electronics. I have kind of gotten use to waking up to make a cup of coffee and finding that my coffee maker is in 50 pieces, but I think it would affect me differently to know that a kindle 3 is in 50 pieces. |

Let's see. How much time do I sit looking at the screensaver page. Oh, right, I don't. I see it briefly as I turn my Kindle on. That's it. I do realize there are those, obviously, who sit and stare at the screensaver and the ads would bother them immensely.

And, how much time do I spend looking at the home page. Well, I look at it briefly as I'm selecting a book to read. The ads would reduce the length of the list I could see on a screen. I understand some just can't tolerate ads. Well, unless it's an ad they're glad they saw or a political ad for their favorite crook. Then it's okay. But they hate ads. What would you be willing to pay for radio with no ads? What would you be willing to pay for magazines with no ads? Would you vote for the guy who did no ads? Bah! |

I'm puzzled. Amazon says: $10 for $20 Amazon.com Gift Card as special offers but a special offer. Does it mean the offer is available multiple times? If so, everybody who buys books from Amazon more than $240 must buy this Ad Kindle...

I look at it like this. I make 32.00... would it be worth working around 45 mins for me, to have a kindle without ads.... IDK. I always put money in terms of hours worked. After looking at it like this, I canceled my ad kindle and just bought a normal one. I figured that it would be worth 45mins at work to have it without ads, since I spend around eight hours a day reading.

Here are some of the initial offers for this new Kindle:

I'm getting one - I love free when it's stuff I was getting anyway.

For a $139 device, $25 is not an insignificant amount. However, I would like to know where the adds would be placed. If as screen saver, no problem. It will be fine as special notes too. Won't like to see them in the books though.

Presumably you would need to have the internet switched on all the time for it to work? The profiling information from that alone would be worth a lot more than $25 to Amazon.
