Those are called "storm cellars". Lots of places in Texas and Oklahoma have those, up here in the Midwest it seems everyone just has basements in their houses. I never did figure out why houses in the Texas Panhandle didn't have basements - unless it was due to the oil table being so close to the surface there. No, I am not joking. I could dig in the sand at Lake Meredith as a kid and hit oil.

Nope, not at my house. My mom has one, a few blocks away from me. If the storms threaten to get really bad I'll have to go over there anyway, to make sure she gets somewhere safe. So no worries.

. We had some storms last night but nothing even close to as severe as what it sounds like Alabama got today.

Betty, why don't you go on over to your mom's house now? Maybe you can get a couple hours sleep before the storms hit. And therefore no travelling during the worst of it.
