HOT! HUMID! Record-breaking weather day. Starting off very overcast, gloomy, gray & drizzly.
[It's unnatural! It was 61 F at 6 am today! In April! Errr.... it IS April isn't it?] |

It is 67 this morning, nice and soupy, the way I like it. It is supposed to start raining today and be back down in the 70's and low 80's for a few days.

Soupy is right! I am not ready to turn my a/c on yet, but it was sure humid in my house last night. I don't mind hot so much, but the humidity drags me down. It's supposed to be stormy here tonight too, then cooler for the next few days.

Its still grey enough outside that I'm loathe to believe we're going to get to the predicted 84 degrees today. But another rollicking thunderstorm wouldnt shock me at all.

![]() Is it all of us Southerners who are severe storm conniseuers? Or just me, due to growing up close to an uncle who is a meteorologist? We are supposed to get "straight line winds" today, instead of tornadoes. The straight line winds always cause more havoc than simple tornadoes, because they are not short lived and just keep blowing. |

I adore storms, even after having been flooded out once. Granted, I also enjoy meteorology and have played a fantasy forecaster game before. My partner and our cat both hate thunderstorms and prefer to cower under the blankets when one blows up. I, on the other hand, prefer to sit in our dark living room with the patio curtains open and my booklit Nook. I think its a throwback from growing up in the sticks where any tiny bit of rain would send the power out for days (the record was 3 weeks during Hurricane Fran). I would read by candlelight as a kid and teenager then and i never grew out of it. |

I did that long before it was popular. My dad and his brother would toss us 5 cousins into the back of the pickup and take off after the tornadoes. No helmets, no roof, no seatbelts, but somehow we survived.
![]() My sister was the baby of the group, only 4 or 5 years old. Those occasions and another time when the tornado caught us outside are what I blame for her pathological fear of storms. I've described before that she and I would drive out into storms when she got out of school. She was so incapacitated by storms that I worried that she would die in a wreck on the freeway if a storm hit while she was driving to work. So I would drive into a storm, pull safely off the road, and help her work through her terrors. We still call each other if she is in a storm, even at home, because it helps her handle it if I can keep her distracted until it is over. |

We may get up to 90 today in D.C.... which actually disappoints me, because I had to bring in a new fan to my office today, so I couldn't ride my commuter bike to work. And tomorrow... rain...
