Why does it have to be multi-quote? The moment one is up-to-date in the discussion and does not refer to things said three pages earlier, one could use a simple @ instead of five or so quotes. Would that do better?

I soooo do not care about if a poster makes a multi-quote or several one quote posts...

I even find it funny that people care so much about it.

That was difficult to follow. If I'm off for a while and come back to 'one' thread, read from my last visit and possibly respond to several comments, but I cannot imagine trying to bring in material from several threads (if I understand what's going on correctly).

I'm not sure of the use of the @ symbol when used in a post. I've seen it used (it's a hyperlink) on Twitter but I don't understand it's use there either.

that doesn't work very well as the intended target could have made any number of comments in the thread and just having an @peabody response doesn't mean peabody knows which comment is being responded to

I have even never checked out how multiquoting via button works.
I always compose such posts manually by cut-paste and manual bbcode setting.
