It really is amazing how fast the Asian people can accomplish things with the most primitive tools.

The road from the Malaysian border to Sadao, the first major town in Thailand used to be almost impassable because of how bad the road was. Now the road is great, it's the bandits on the sides that make it scary

I have only drive in Thailand once and I'll pass on doing it again soon, I do plan on riding through Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and then China, if I can and then Korea, Japan and by boat back to Alaska and down through to my home city. It's a dream and I'm working on the logistics, the only problem so far seems to be China, everywhere else travel isn't restricted like it is in China.

Personally, I think it's the most dangerous place on earth to be a bike rider. The laws are completely ignored in favor of bribing the traffic cop. There is no reason to look left or right to see if the way is clear because as a good Buddhist, you're going to be reborn anyway. And the two Golden Rules apply: he who is bigger gets the right-of-way, and who gives a sh!t Just go!
During the 8 years I lived in Thailand, I saw either ; an accident just happen, an accident that happened within the last 2 hours, or an accident that happened within the past 6 hours... EVERY DAY THAT I WAS IN THE KINGDOM.

As I said before, I've run into a quite a few people riding around the world. Although China does have more restrictions, it's not all that difficult to arrange a good route. More difficulties were found in the various shipping requirements when needed to cross waters.

I call Malaysia the most dangerous place to ride a bike, people here have little or no regard for bikes, the moto is "If I can still drive away I will, unless they are on an expensive bike, then I will blame them and sue".

In the 30 years that I have been driving I have had 4 accidents (only one where I was seriously hurt, none my fault) and all but one were in Malaysia. I have been hit by 3 scooters, 2 at the same time, I think they were racing, that accident the cops refused to even come. I refused to pay any damages and my company car got fixed by the company. The 2 guys on the bikes accused me of running them over, funny all the damage was to the rear end of the car, they actually hit the rear bumper of the car while I was stopped at a red light. The other scooter that hit me was without a doubt planned, he was after cash and side swiped my car, no damage to anyone, I called the cops and guess what, they declined to come.

Here you have to be an Offensive driver to survive, if you are meek you will be driven over.

When I drove in Thailand I had the same reaction that you had, like I said that is the part of the trip that makes me a little scared, ok a lot. I figure I will have to drive about 2600 km in Thailand and that is through some of the bad sh!t as far as I know, maybe shipping the bike to Vietnam

I have a lot of friends that were in the Philippines and they all rode motorcycles because it was the only way to get anywhere fast

Ok, I have a little rant about hair dying, my wife has beautiful shiny black hair and she insists on adding brown highlights, I don't get it. So my advice is, leave it as it was made

Hope you feel better!

agree undoubtedly. I just had my hair cut yesterday, I like it short

one day, I was in a hairdresser's. She was really, I mean really really, so disappointed with my hair that she made me think leaving your hair grow naturally is unlawful She even suggested dying my hair because it was jet black, so black that it should be dyed after torturing me about 2 hours, she asked me proudly what I thought about her work with my hair. I looked like some Korean kid and I was like, "OMG what has she done to my hair?? Give me back my old hair style!!"

never came back there since that day. one lesson: always tell your hairdresser exactly what you want him/her to do with your hair.

I know exactly what you mean, I always take my wife with me when I get my hair cut now, I went alone and ended up almost completely bald. The poor guy didn't understand English and was so upset when he finally realized that he cut my hair too short, he refused to take any money and always tells me to come back, his shop is next to where I get my dry cleaning done so I see him 2 or 3 times a month.

My mother was a hair dresser and her father was a barber for many years so I didn't pay for a haircut until I wanted to leave it very long, my mother would "Slip" and it would have to be cut shorter The last barber I used in Canada was a very old guy that actually went to school with my grandfather, he only knew 1 cut it seems, a good old "Marine Flat Top".

i'm actually really tempted to get it all shaved off, just to get rid of the constant heavy feeling on top of my head. that said, i don't have a vacation long enough for it to grow back

but the more i think about it, the more i'm tempted to do it. growing up in a conservative asian family and being the youngest and a girl (i know, how dare me, right? ), i wasn't given much chances to rebel. i'm squirming in my seat here
