There is a certain amount of GUI work outstanding that David Pierron needs to do relating to some of the new features. Pressure of work has stopped him finding the time to do this. However I believe (hope) that he should be able to do this shortly. The incremental update is using an approach which means that only files that have really changed get copied to the target folder. It improved impractical to stop them being generated to the local temp folder, but tht is reasonably effecient - the saving comes from not putting them onto the (possibly slow) target location. The amount of gain depends on the amount of change to the library. If you have only changed/added a few books or added them concentrated on a small numnber of authors then there is a large gain as around 90-95% of files in the catalog are not copied. If you have changed a significant number (say around 1-2%) with the changes scattered all over the library then the gain is smaller - about a 30-50% reduction in the number of files that get changed. There is a small runtime penalty at generation time to get this gain as the tests for change are applied rectroactively after the files have been generated in the local temp folder. However the cost is small, and it will be possible to disable this feature via a GUI option. The log file now adds some messages about the files changed so that you can see how much it helps you. Hope that is good news! |

Hey - for people with large collections, even a 30% reduction means many many hours (especially when synchronizing via dropbox to other PCs)!!! So fingers crossed... And thanks guys!

As part of this enhancement, I added writing some statistics to the log file about the files copied, and (when you get your hands on the new release) would be interested on the gains others see on their own libaries. I am not sure how representative my own library is although at ~12000 books it is defnitely non-trivial. As I run this off a NAS that is not the fastest of beasts any reduction in I/O across the network produces significant performance gains. Those using Dropbox where the network will be even slower should hopefully notice the effect even more. |

Been trying for 2 days with no luck...
Hey all, I'm having an issue that I hope someone can help me out with. I have set up the public dropbox directory as the calibre database location. I then used OPDS to generate the catalog into that public library folder. It looks like everything runs properly but when I go into the _catalog folder there is no catalog.xml file. I have a catalog.css, index.html, and index.xml file but no catalog.xml, anyone else have this issue or anyone know why this might be? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
BTW I am using Windows 7 and Aldiko UPDATE: I used the dropbox link to the index.xml file and aldiko was able to access it except that it doesn't have any of the books that I uploaded, I can't click on anything options in Aldiko on the Main Catalog page (except for the 'Calibre2Opds Documentation' file) Last edited by omedina; 04-06-2011 at 12:39 PM. |

A few points to check:
- Did you remember to select ALDIKO as the compatibility mode? I personally do not know exactly what it does but it is probably needed. - If you try and use the HTML version of the catalogs do you see the download links? Since the HTML pages are generated from the XML ones that can act as an easy check on what is in the XML ones. If you cannot spot anything yourself, then it might be worth grabbing the log file (as described here in the documentation). FYI we have added an option to the Help menu in calibre2opds for the next release to make it easier to view the log file). If you want to post the contents of the log file here (wrap it in code tags to keep the post cleaner) then I can see if I spot anything strange in the settings being used. |

Thanks for your quick response! Yes I did have Aldiko set as the compatibility mode and the html link works just fine, it lets me see whatever books I have uploaded. I checked the catalog on aldiko again and it says 1 book (I only uploaded one so far just to see if it works) but it won't let me choose to look by title or series or by author or anything, very strange. I am posting my log, I really appreciate you taking a look at it.

I canot see anything in the log that indicates an issue? The only thing I can think of is an Aldiko issue, but since I do not have a system that runs Aldiko I cannot test Aldiko directly myself.
Are you prepared to PM me the exact URL you use so I can directly examine the generated catalog online. That way I can tell you for certain whether the catalog is correctly structured and works with other OPDS compatible applications. That way you will then know for sure if the issue is in Aldiko or not. If it is an Aldiko issue then you may need to contact the developer. |

OK. Just checked those links, and other programs that I use can use the XML catalog fine, so the problem must be in Aldiko itself. My suggestion would be that you contact the Aldiko author and give him the same links and see what he says.
If the response is that some amendment to the catalog format would make it start working with Aldiko, then given the details we would be more than happy to considering altering calibre2opds to incorporate such a change when in Aldiko compatibility mode (although it would be better if Aldiko was made fully OPDS compliant). BTW: excellent book! I have read all 3 booKs in the trilogy. |

Another new feature in this build is to suppress the generation of the OPDS catalog if you do not want it. It does not actually speed up generation as we have to temporarily generate the xml files as a stepping stone to the HTML ones, but it does save on space in the resulting catalog if you do not want the OPDS variant. If you like I could attach a pre-beta 4 build here for you to check that you get the same gains. I would welcome some feedback from someone with a large library - all the changes that have been made work fine on my library but you never know what is going to happen when it hits the wild ![]() |

Calibre2opds Localization
Just thought I would ask here if anyone is interested in helping with the calibre2opds localization. It does not require any special skills other than knowledge of the language that is being localized. Calibre2opds has been designed to be easy to localize but there is still some work required to do it. The process is described at https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/Cali...s_Localization (please ask questions if the description of what to do is not clear).
The team can handle English and French languages, but any other languages require help from others. There are partial translations for Italian and Spanish and no other languages have even started as yet. |

Calibre2opds v2.4 beta 4
Just thought I would let everyone know that calibre2odps v2.4 beta 4 is available for you to download and play with over the Easter weekend

For those of you using the HTML catalogs we would welcome feedback on the new 'mobile' look for low resolution screens (e.g. phones). At the moment the new look is automatic when a low resolution screen is detected, so feedback on whether you would like more control over when the mobile look is invoked is welcomed. |

Will not open on my Windows 7 64 bit machine. I get a flash of a DOS box and then nothing.
Did an un-install and re-install, have Java in my Path, still nothing, going back to the old version...which BTW the old version only allows 25 items to be displayed, and will not go to another page, at least with the Aldiko setting. Last edited by jhempel24; 04-22-2011 at 02:10 PM. |

The other possibility is that you are simply getting an error that will become obvious when you try and run the file from a DOS command window so that you have a chance to see any error message. You could try editing he rungui.cmd file with a text editor to comment out the ECHO OFF statement then run it from a DOS command window to see what line is going wrong. The file is not very long so hopefully it will be obvious what is failing. I had corrected a number of issues in it with getting quotes right for filenames containing spaces but is possible that one got missed that gets invoked on a 64-bit machine. |
