3. When your eReader prompts you to finish the update, restart your eReader.

I've been turning on my WiFi every day for the last week or so just to check for the update, but no joy. John, could you let us know if/when you get yours?

When the update was released, there was a formula offering the update 1 out of every 5 connections--in truth it seemed a lot less.

I downloaded the Borders desktop app and plugged in the Kobo, and have been hitting "sync" over and over for the last few minutes to see if that will do anything. However, the desktop app is 1.8 so I don't know if what I'm doing will have any effect. No update yet...

I believe you need the Kobo application/desktop not the Border's one (at least that's how it worked for me). And I did have to sync a few times till the reader received the upgrade.

Here is the link to the application in case you don't have it yet: http://kobobooks.com/desktop

FYI: I hadn't been prompted to get the 1.9 update using either the wireless connection or when connecting through USB and syncing with the Kobo Desktop (for Mac) application. But when I synced today (using the desktop app), I was prompted to install new software.

Perhaps they're rolling it out to more people, or it's gone live to everyone now?

I just downloaded borders desktop ereader onto my notebook and noticed it says it is version 1.9, dated April 8 2011. Unfortunately, I left my kobo wifi at friends house over the weekend so I can not confirm if this will update the ereader to 1.9 as well....

Not absolutely certain yet but since my battery was about half charge when I did the upgrade, I just continued reading until the battery died. After plugging it in, my current book was on the I'm Reading list and opened at the page I was reading when the battery died. An improvement over the previous firmware where you either opened the book from the I'm Reading menu and then skipped forward to the correct page or had to re-open the book from the library and then skip forward.

Of course, the new goto function makes getting back to the page much easier on those 900+ page books I grab from Gutenberg and others.
