One of today's biggest problems is the "New Jersey attitude" -- the people who figuratively (or literally!) defend their rudeness with "ya gotta problem with that?" Politeness is the lubricant in the social wheels, and when you get people disregarding it, that's like sand in the gears. People might or might not solve a problem if they're civil to each other, but guaranteed they're not going to solve it if they're standing there screaming obscenities at each other. Or, in this case, demonstrating that they think 10 seconds of their time is more important than any amount of the reader's time, even when they're trying to communicate with that reader. The attitude is "what I have to say is so important that people should willingly jump through any number of hoops to get to it" ... when, of course, those people are all trying to find a spot to hang their own much more important utterances. It's the Facebook syndrome again -- millions of people shouting and none listening. I've found that it's rarely to my personal benefit to look like a rude, arrogant, uncivilized jackass. Your mileage may vary. Note: I'm not saying anyone in this discussion is such a jackass; they're not.

I would like to take a moment to say that this is the most poliet forum that I have evern had the pleasure of being a part of. And this is IMHO atleast in part due to the fact that administrators seem to spend more of their time moving misplaced threads and keeping the software going (IMHO the proper roll for an administrator) then policing the forum and keeping people in line. Its also due to the fact that forum members seem to be interested in keeping the debate civil and intellectual. On other forums I have been banned for expressing my own views and sometimes ridiculed for that.

https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...postcount=9909 So, in both cases this is not ideal but it's a little bit pointless as you can't reproach someone for answering/refering to five posters. I would guess that this all is simply a matter of taste and not of bad behaviour. Last edited by Billi; 04-04-2011 at 06:32 PM. Reason: typo

You do not over-quote (on some forums you can get a ban for it) You use multi-quote if this feature is present. You do not have to do it. It is just a common courtesy. (Like, you do not spit on a pavement in a town. Many do. Nobody bans it. Just a common courtesy not to do it). Each of us chooses to follow whatever rules and logic our mind or soul? suggests to us.

I don't like using or reading multi-quotes, and rarely use it. I hope I'm not one of the ones everybody is up in arms about. Some of us aren't as forum-savvy as others, so I had no idea it was even an issue. I thought it was just an option.

If the posts are on the same concept then yeah, multi-quoting makes sense, but it's not something that should always be used. That's just silly.
