ohhhh! I had a 'fridge in a rental once that had a bit of a short issue! my cat was sitting on the counter demanding a nose kiss as I was opening the door, I leaned over to nose her and we went ssss~~~SSSSSSmmmMMMMMackkkkk!!!!!! took her a couple of days to even come close to me!

Just grated some fresh horseradish for Sunday dinner.
  • 250 ml (1 cup) grated horseradish
  • white vinegar
  • 1 Tbs sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
Grate horseradish and place in 500 ml (1 pint) mason jar
Add sugar and salt
Add just enough vinegar to almost cover
Give it all a real good stir
Put on lid and refrigerate

Can be used immediately and will last for up to 3 months. The hotness dissipates the longer it is kept.

Right now it's hot enough to blow your friggin' head off.

ah memories! my Dad knew of a patch of wild horse radish that he guarded very carefully. he would periodically grate it up for the homemade stuff. I have a picture of him in ski goggles and a foam face mask that we used to wear for blizzard ski conditions with some of the culprit in hand. we would have to clear out of the house!

Tim's dad had a patch also. He claimed that you can become immune to the heat. He would just bite into a piece and chew it up. I'm surprised his dentures didn't melt!!

We lucked into a kaitenzushi shop (sushi conveyor belts) on our trip that uses freshly grated wasabi! Usually you get the reconstituted powder stuff (which isn't 'bad' but not great,) or the junk in the little plastic packs that is only 25% wasabi and 75% horse radish! This stuff was so fresh it almost burnt out my nose! I guess one isn't supposed to snort wasabi.

I just bought and printed tickets to the Keukenhof. My sister and I want to go on Wednesday because this is the last "quiet" week according to the Keukehof's website. If the weather isn't as good as they are predicting atm we'll go another time, the tickets are valid until May 20th.

In preparation I'm charging the batteries of my camera and I'm planning the trip. I'm very excited, it's been a while since I've gone on a day trip.
