Nook Books and JBL

I recently purchased a JetBook lite on the advice of this forum. It's for my daughter's 12th birthday.

One of the things I said I wanted to be able to do was give her a reader that could read all the same stuff as my Nook ... including B&N Nook Books.

I received the JBL in the mail ... and wanted to add a few books to it before she opened it.

I went to my Nook Library on-line and downloaded one of her books as an epub. I saved with the title as the file name (rather than the string of numbers). I went to ADE to import it so I can add it to her JBL and I get an error:
"Document is licensed for a different user account"

I tried downloading it again and keeping the string of numbers as the file name . . . still didn't work.

So, what am I doing wrong .... Or was I mistaken that the JBL would read Nook Books?

Did you authorize the JBL with ADE?

I did authorize the JBL on ADE ... but at the time I didn't even have the JBL hooked up. I was just trying to the the Nook Book to open in ADE ... and it wouldn't. Should I have had the JBL hooked up? I was playing around during a movie last night ... daughter was in the room, so I couldn't get the JBL out. I was just going to get the Nook books ready to transfer and do it after she went to bed.

If I can't put Nook Books on the JBL, then it will go back and I'll get her a refrub Nook Classic .... But I really liked that the JBL didn't have wifi ... no chance of any one "accidentally" buying $100 in books! (I know you can password protect it, but I wanted her to be able to have full control over the device itself and just need my permission to purchase books)

When I got my JBL, I had books from BN on my computer, through BN's PC app. I did not use ADE--I just went to the directory where the downloaded files were--I think by default it is called "My BN Content"--and copied the files to my JBL.

I believe then when I tried to open the first BN book on the JBL, I had to authorize it by entering my BN account name (with no space between my first and last name) and my BN account credit card number (again, no spaces) in the JBL. Then the JBL could open the BN books without any problem.

As the Catlady points out, you don't need to use ADE with your JBL, for B&N ebooks.
Once you have unlocked the first B&N ebook, the JBL well unlock all the others that you
put on your JBL, without asking for the unlocking data again, as long as they unlock
with the same data. The file name change should not matter in this case. It has mattered for some unlocking procedures though.

You can create a file structure for the library that you maintain on her SD card. The best way to maintain the library, in my opinion is to create the file structure you want
for the SD card as a folder on your PC's Hard Drive, then you can use something like
the free SyncToy to selectively maintain/sync the SD card. It is much better to work
with the SD cards using a USB 2 interface reader attached to your PC than the JBL's
USB 1.1 interface to its SD card reader.

Luck;
Ken

That's so nice, you buying one for your daughter. I gave my daughter (8) my ebookwise 1150, and she likes it, but doesn't remember to use it very often.

I've started using my JBL again, I had set it aside when I got my Kindle a few months ago. I have some books that look much better in the JBL. So I decided I'll use it for certain series. I've uploaded all my Anne McCaffrey RTF books on it and they look great! I'll do the same with my Darkover books. Re-reading these books, and loving them all over again!

Ah ha!

Got it!

transferred all the Nook Books to the SD card simply using drag-and-drop ... entered the unlock code (or whatever it was called) ... thanks for the heads up on it being name with no spaces and CC#. NEVER would have figured that one out! Books read just fine ...

I then renames them all to more conventional titles ... and the JBL kind of freaked out ... until i took it clear back to the welcome screen, turn it off and then on again .. it re-read the SD card and all is well!

Can't wait for her birthday ... she just told me last night that, since we have a grown-up computer and a kid's computer, we should have a grown-up Nook and a kid's Nook .. for her and her older sister. Since the older sister won't read a book unless it's been assigned for a grade, little sis figures she'll get sole possession of the "Kid's Nook".

Hopefully, she'll love this critter just as much!

THANK YOU!

Great! Some kind soul here told me not to use a space in my name--like you, I never would have dreamed to do that.

The JBL seems to prefer to be on for the removal and insertion of the SD card--otherwise it apparently retains the old file in its memory.

Sounds like she's going to be one happy kid!
