I was thinking the answer would be, "Exactly in the position you were before, because you've simply lapped them."

What's the issue with #3? I really don't see the difficulty! I got #1 and #2 wrong, but the others right.

I don't know.

It would be interesting to see if an expert on the way the brain works could provide a clue or two.

Mortis - can you explain what's hard about #3? It's a straightforward addition - why are people getting it wrong?

Something is happening when one is adding up the numbers that is strange, the smaller numbers seem to add to a thousand ..., when it's really only a hundred.

It seems to be common 'problem' according to the comments.

Hmmm. 40 + 30 + 20 + 10 added up to 100, not 1000, when I was in school

Yes interesting. I also had no trouble with question #3, it must reveal something about how various people do addition in their heads. For met it was a simple as (4x1000) + (40+30+20+10). Missed the first one though. Questions #4 and #5 were easy since I had been primed by the first to look for clever twists. It would have probably been best to attempt to answer all of them before looking at any solutions. I missed #2 because I was visualizing overtaking the person in front of me, neglecting to consider that I was therefore last.

Guess I'm just not as ejemicated as some, oh hang on, some very smart people got that one wrong, or rather admit it. This is why I didn't go into banking, just counterfeiting

I would actualy have argued that that added up to 5000, no matter how many times I looked at it I still came up wrong, probably says something about me
