My goal this weekend is to get a friend hooked on Firefly. We were going through my movie collection the other day and he said "I still haven't seen Serenity yet". So I told him he needs to watch the series first. I might bring my DVD's to his house tomorrow... |

Well, I stayed up late last night to get this book finished (it's not a long book, and I'm a fast reader!). Tis good! I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen the TV series (not enough description), but it captures the characters and their dialogue very well, a good plot, and made me smile a lot. Not as good as another series, but a nice blast of good stuff for the Browncoats out there.

After 46 downloads, we're getting a few similar downloads on Feedbooks. Firefly fans love Peter Watts ;-)

Rats, I should have posted this-- I've been following Brust's efforts to get the book published commercially for months. I suppose now we'll have to add Firefly stuff (that somehow doesn't infringe on Whedon's copyright) to the Adrilankha Gift Shop. |

The author has managed to get the dialogue and the personality of the series right. Excellent! A great 'verse to visit.

Is this legal? It doesn't sound like he had permission from the shows creators. Am I wrong? Either way, I'll read it.

He could be doing it for purely promotional purposes, to gain a larger following for his for-profit writing, or to show the copyright owners that he can write Firefly stories, with hopes to get a contract to write more for profit. This, too, is considered acceptable by most copyright laws. | |
