Sounds like being self employed, except I can't get a student loan

Hey, I resent that comment. I'm not blind, I just can't see further than 60cm!

Today went much better with the contacts. I found it much easier to put them in and take them out. I did however notice a considerable amount of red veins in my eyes after wearing them for the recommended 5 hours. I'm not sure if it's just part of the normal adjustment process or if it points to trouble brewing.

I think thats fairly normal. I had contacts a while back, and found the newer soft ones a WHOLE lot better than the former hard types. I would up having enough allergies that my soft ones grew "gunk" too fast, so I quit using them. However, with the modern disposable ones, that might not be a problem. I ought to try them again ..... Perhaps ....

Planning a trip to the Keukenhof in case the weather will be as good as they are predicting at the moment next Thursday or Friday. Last time we went to Schiphol by train and then took the bus to the Keukenhof. But it was so busy we had to wait in line for over an hour to get onto a bus. This year we're going to Leiden by train and catch a bus from there. The train ride is longer but hopefully we won't have to wait for the bus that long.

I shouldn't forget to charge the batteries of my camera.

I had to google Keukenhof. Now I'm totally jealous -- it looks gorgeous. Yes, please make sure your camera is operational so you can share some pictures!

Avoiding a mid term essay. I'm supposed to be writing about Amy Tan's story, "Two Kinds". It's either an excerpt from The Joy Luck Club, or a short story based on it. I have to analyze it in terms of three concepts we have discussed in class so far. Those include symbolism, irony, conscious/unconscious, repression, Oedipal/Electra complexes, etc. and so forth. I'm stuck.
Last week the professor gave us a choice between Oedipal/Electra complex and repression. I found both in the selection and ended up getting carried away and turning in a paper twice the length of what she asked for. This week I can't get past the second paragraph!
The story originally caught my interest because I recognized Amy Tan's name, and I subconsciously tied it to the Tiger Mother story that's been in the news. But I'm finding this impossible to analyze. I think it's too late to change stories, too, darn it.

Oh, bless your heart. I know it's bad with me when I'd much rather be doing dishes than doing the assignment. The paper is written and referenced, I'm trying to run it through a couple of online plagiarism detectors to triple check that I referenced everything correctly, though with a parenthetical citation after nearly every sentence and an abundance of quotation marks, I don't see what I could have missed. Thank goodness I'm only referencing two pieces. But our school uses SafeAssign, and to be honest, that piece of software scares me. It gives false positives on correctly referenced material, and if the professor doesn't check, the student is left having to prove their case to an appeals committee. NOT a situation I want to find myself in, even if it turned out they found me innocent.

Yes, I can relate to that. It gives one an anxious feeling if there's only a murmur of not having correctly referenced material. It also has to do with integrity of course. But it's strange; you can get the same weird feeling of 'guilt' one sometimes get's when seeing a police-man..........' did I do something wrong?'.

I can relate, too. I've actually had nightmares about incorrectly referencing material (probably because I've got about 300 pages of my dissertation written and I know I must have incorrectly referenced something, somewhere, but it will take me two weeks to find it. Grrr.) I've got to finish off an article tomorrow, too, I'm dreading doing the final editing.
