Two New Free E-books to Read
Now's your chance to visit my website and read my two latest books in PDF, Epub, or MOBI formats.
Let me know what you think. Visit the Editor's Desk and use the Contacts page to send me some feedback. A Story of Revenge ![]() People think revenge is an emotional reaction. Not true. Any action, taken because of a feeling of emotional hurt, is done in anger, not revenge. Revenge is a carefully calculated, analytical, intellectual response. It takes time and maturity to conceive and plan revenge. A person's soul must be hardened, and a course of justice determined. All anger must dissipate, and be replaced by cold logic. Revenge is a savage memory, thought of time and time again, until satisfied. Warning: this story contains adult language and situations. Counter-Espionage ![]() Keeping your job is not easy when you're a troublesome, old woman - unless you know everyone's secrets. Miss Whyte, devious Spymaster Emerita, stays on the job by subtle blackmail, controlling information, and playing one superior against another. An avid reader, she studies mystery, detective, and spy novels for new tricks, while searching for deeply buried spies hiding within the government. When management tries and fails to push her into retirement, she retaliates, forcing them to re-equip her one-woman counter-espionage department, and rejuvenates her career with the help of two young assistants. Painted in a Corner
Painted in a Corner is said to be a fun read with lots of twists and turns that keep you wanting more. For only $0.99, you won't be disappointed. Not convinced you want to take a risk on an author you've never heard about? No problem. Sample 25% of my book on smashwords before committing.
Like reading about love rekindled after time apart? Do you like when the heroine is pushed beyond her comfort zone and immerses herself in uncharted territory? Tasteful seduction? Lies, Betrayal, and of course the much anticipated HEA? This is the book you are looking for. Blurb: When Bianca Barrett returns to her hometown, she is forced to face dark memories from her past, her unbearable family, and her old flame, Derrick. Bianca is shocked to find that Derrick has moved on, with the last person she would have expected. Watch how this tangled love affair turns into something beautiful. But, as with anything else, when it seems too good to be true, it often is. Follow along as Bianca finds a new friend with an electrifying personality that is able to push Bianca to new heights and beyond her comfort zone. When love is at its peak, mix in a few lies, some betrayal and you have a lover set on getting revenge. In the end, will Bianca be able to forgive those that have hurt her the most, or is it she that will need forgiveness? http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/50369 Check out my book trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4I4RwLJjUq4 Excerpt from one of the chapters: I headed down the road towards the outskirts of town and stopped at the Get-It-Quik. I got out to pump my gas and dropped my Coach wallet on the ground. As I bent over to retrieve it, I heard footsteps coming closer. Then I saw work boots like Jonah had been wearing that day in the kitchen when he got mud everywhere. I rose slowly to face the one and only Derrick Rogers. He was standing right in front of me so there was no way of getting out of this one. He had aged a little bit, as expected, but he was still hotter than an egg in a frying pan. Yes, definitely sexier now. I swallowed hard when I saw him in the flesh, standing just a foot in front of me. He was tan and a little sweaty (the sexy sweaty) from working outside all day. His jeans were tattered and holey in some spots. He had an old gray t-shirt on under his orange safety vest. He towered above me a few inches and I found myself staring up into his eyes. “I heard you were back. You look great, Bianca,” he said with a sincere smile on his face. I always said his face was an open book because one look and you could read everything he was thinking. Right now it said how much he has missed me. How awful his life was now. Okay, so maybe I read more into it than was called for. I imagined his life being awful because I knew he was shacked up with Valerie. But I could see the longing in his eyes. He did miss me. That much was true. “Thank you, Derrick. That’s kind of you to say. I knew we’d run into each other sooner or later,” though I had hoped for later. I wanted to avoid this reunion. Did he have to look so damn hot? I felt the pace of my heart pick up a few notches. His blond hair was wavy, a little longer than he used to wear it. I felt the urge to run my fingers through it. “So you’re working for my Dad now too, huh?” Why did I insist on asking a stupid question I already knew the answer to? “Yeah, can you believe that? I hadn’t much luck with work the past few months and I got a call from your Dad out of the blue one day asking me to come over and talk to him. He made me a foreman. I didn’t think your dad of all people would give me a chance, but...,” and I interrupted with, “Yeah I guess he surprised us all”. “I hear congratulations are in order. Rumor has it you have a big day coming up in August. Ran into Valerie at the bank,” I added the last part so he knew it came straight from the horse’s mouth. “Figures she would try to throw it in your face the first chance she got. Sorry about that,” he seemed annoyed with her, his face twisting in a frown. He looked at the ground and then back up to meet my eyes. “Could have been you and me, Bianca”. I wasn’t about to encourage further conversation in that direction. “It seems a lot has changed around here for you, Derrick. Good luck with Valerie. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t taken aback by the news, but that is not my business”. I finished pumping the gas and walked back to the driver side door. I was feeling flush from seeing him again. His very presence did things to me that I couldn’t explain. “I have cold stuff in the trunk so I better be getting home. It was great seeing you.” And without waiting for him to reply, I was in the car and headed down the road faster than you can say chocolate covered grasshopper. If we get new reviews on our books, are we allowed to post them in this thread, or is that overkill?

Hahaha.
Another five-star review for The Dangers Of Field Work on Amazon. Vitka Zone provides shades of Twilight (Serling's) By Dick Peterson "Red Stick Writer" (Fairway, KS USA) In The Dangers of Field Work, William Vitka unearthed memories of The Twilight Zone... that place of exquisite terror from the original master, Rod Serling. He would often take you down a path, get you intimate with the scenery there, lull you into a direction of thought, and within a couple of sentences in his script drop you off a cliff on the other end of the island. I can remember being sucked in by such elegant literary baits and switches. Vitka does that. Excellent writing. Even though the brevity and abruptness seals the deal, you want more. A talent to watch. Get the story: $.99 on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Smashwords. |

Hi, all! If there spec fic fans out there looking for an inexpensive, character-driven science fiction novel mine is available! The book is called The Sixth Sense, and it's on Kindle, Nook, and Smashwords for 99 cents.
Is there a place to post suggestions? I was thinking it would be good to have genre-specific threads, and maybe price-specific threads in this forum. Assuming anyone is looking at this thread besides other self-promoting authors, I mean. -) Carmen Webster Buxton (aka, Shameless) |
