Well, it wasn't the first and it wasn't that far ahead either, but it was well marketed and claimed those things.

There is a very nice comparison of the iPad2 to the Xoom here:

If you look hard enough you can find anything.

What I'm talking about is in everyday social interaction.

Well after seeing some comparisons between the iPad 2 and Xoom the wining one wwould be the Apple product.
But i think Samsung will change this with their Tab project.

was bored during lunch so I went to our nearest Verizon just to kill some time. Played with the Xoom for like the 30th time. I DON'T WANT TO WAIT. I sooo want it now. The screen actually feels easier on the eyes than the iPad, the iPad does go brighter allowing for some more punch but in every day softer lights (not the harsh overhead flourescents) I think I would perfer the xoom screen. It kind of reminds of comparing Plasama TV's and LCD's in the store. In the store LCD's always had that more punch but when at home the easy screen of the plasma is much nicer to the eyes.

I can see the same thing here. Man the Xoom is so much fun. iPad just really does seem waaay to dumbed down and toooo easy. Like comparing Risk to chutes and Ladders. IDK all I know is tax season can't end soon enough then I xooom.

Ok stepping off soap box now.

I Took The Plunge...

and bought a WiFi Xoom (Costco $589 and includes free silicone gel case). The battery life is outstanding and reading on it (I use Cool reader w/two pages showing) is very nice indeed. Also this thing is way faaaaaaast!

Since there's so little bloatware installed and apps can be downloaded from the Market, there's practically no need to root. Once the SD card slot software is upgraded you could have 64 GB (currently internal storage is 32 GB) for two hundred less than an IPad.

This thread is a great read! Please don't shoot the noob for jumping in and giving my 2 cents I guess you could say we are pretty diverse here when it comes to our electronics. We have our laptops with W7 which I would never part with. Both Mr. Cheeky and myself have android phones which are just too cool and that lead me to the forums (here and XDA) where I learned about rooting and ROMS. The awesomeness of the Android platform has me really wanting a Xoom but alas, tis not in the budget. I thought about going the rooted Nook route but ended up getting a first generation iPad after the price drop (I have a 5 year old with autism and the iPad is more for him).

Honestly, aside from being addicted to electronics and wishing my bank account had a few more zeros on the end of it, if I were told I had to pick only one of those and had to part with the other two, I would probably stick with my laptop. Crazy, huh?

By the way....this is a great forum and I'm so happy to have found it!

Not crazy at all -- this is what I did. I just got myself a Windows 7 tablet/laptop convertible. Best of both worlds. Not to save money, really, but because Android and IOS tablets are too limiting. Besides, I only have to carry one item when I travel.

Nothing at all wrong with that, sounds like you are thinking carefully about things and matching to your needs!

I have a high-end Dell laptop (from work) that is used for all my software development etc - win7 Pro-64 and it rocks!

I also have a dell laptop (not quite so high end. i3) that is a dedicated DVR running Win7 Home 64 and it works excellent as well.

Welcome to MR!
