I bought a Nuvo-Tek (www.nuvo-tek.com) off ebay for $4.89 with free shipping and this is made of neoprene and is made to fit the Kindle 3

tried to shrink the case but with little sucess. Ah well... it still fits alright. There is no way the kindle will fall out without "outside intervention". A 7" case is about 0.5 inches too big in length and width.

Hello,
I just bought a kindle for backpacking since it so lightweight and the battery lasts forever. I am looking at a Sealine E-reader Case for waterproofing it and then putting that in a Kindle DX case of some sort for a bit of rigidity. So I am looking for a DX case that offers some rigid protection, but is as lightweight as possible and preferably cheap. Also since this is going in the woods function takes precedence to appearance. EDIT: Never mind, I had an epiphany. I will cut up a blue foam sleeping pad to make front and back panels, connect them with duct tape, add some shock cord to hold the corners in. It will look very ghetto, but will do what I need it to. Last edited by whiterussian; 03-30-2011 at 09:11 AM. |

You still have to consider twisting forces or pressure points when you pack. I think my backpacking days are behind me but still do long day hikes and usually take a book for reading at a pass, peak or lake. I got the K3 just after last Fall's Yosemite/Sierra hiking. So I've also been considering how to protect it from the unexpected rain event and just pressure points in the daypack. I could shove a book in anywhere, the k3 less so. |

For backpacking, wouldn't the extra bulk be as bad as weight?
How about a hard armor case like that that tuff-luv case mentioned earlier, then put it in a zip lock freezer bag or two for water proofing? You'd just have to pack it so the screen is against something soft and non-pokey. Last edited by ApK; 03-30-2011 at 10:28 AM. |

Yeah, that's why I think I'd go with tough fitted hard case, soft waterproof bag around that.

M-Edge design your own cover
I haven't seen any discussion about the new M-Edge design your own covers, they call it MyEdge. It was just launched a couple of weeks ago. I designed a cover to match my skin that I had previously designed, and I just received my cover today. I love it, it is so well made. It's from canvas, with a leather spine, the colors are bright and clear, and it's cushy. The inside has a little pocket on the left to hold a list or whatever you want. It has the elastic corners mounting system, they are leather. It has the little pocket under the Kindle where you can slip your M-Edge e-Luminator light. The only downside I see to this cover is that it does not have a closure system. Right now I'm using like an elastic pony tail holder, so that holds it closed very similar to the elastic band on the Amazon lighted cover. Here's some pics of mine:

I had considered the custom mEdge cover, but couldn't decide on a design!! While I save up for an Oberon, I picked up this little beauty in the interim from Amazon - and at a decent price too! http://www.amazon.com/mCover%C2%AE-L...1622066&sr=8-2 It just came today, so I haven't had a chance to test it out in my work bag (which consists of my purse, kindle, umbrella, various computer paraphernalia like thumb drives, usb cords, and misc junk). Will let everyone know how it goes and also post pics |

I am using the Eco-nique Natural Hemp Cover and I absolutely love it. Has a very simple and natural appeal. I also like that from the outside it looks like a simple journal (not so tempting for a thief who manages to glance at your product if it's laying around someplace).
The price has jumped a fair bit on Amazon since I purchased mine back in January. But it is a quality cover and I have nothing but praise. ![]() ![]() |
