I thought I'd miss "the real thing", but a few pages into my first Kindle novel, I was hooked! I carry the thing everywhere! The kids are hilarious..."Oh, here comes Dad's Kindle...and Dad's attached to it"

Some books I have or want to read aren't available as e-books so I don't have a choice but to read the hard version. I've only had my Nook for a few days but already I love reading it and I'm kinda beginning to prefer it over paper books. Just a couple of years ago I could not imagine saying that.

I go to the library and check out paper books, but it's just not the same as an ereader. The books I want aren't available from my local library as ebooks, although they are available at other places but usually in PDF format.

I also see more and more people with ereaders on the trains which is good.

I've recently purchased some used hardcovers and trade paperbacks so that I could scan them because they're not available as ebooks. I probably won't read the dead tree versions though.

Since getting my jetBook Lite fifteen months ago, I have not only downloaded dozens of eBooks, but I've also bought two dozen paper books for myself. I'm reading more of all types than before.

Way less paper books. I used to spend a lot of money buying paper books I never read. Now I only buy paper books if I will use them as reference or will lend it out to friends (I like lending/being lent paper books. It's like the presence of the person is there. The physicality is nice). I just borrow physical books from the library (too lazy to make it work for my Kindle), and buy ebooks. Shelving is no longer an issue.

No you're not. I still enjoy reading hard copy, I enjoy that whole experience, the two forms are just...different. I find the reader for just that, reading - but if I want to relax, possibly with a libation, in the favourite chair, and get something else from reading, the real thing is difficult to beat. ![]() But I have had a good few years at it, so it could well be ingrained activity syndrome ! Mind you, I'll confess that, add a hammock, or bed, to the picture, and it's the Sony every time. But, always, for me, the old, old story - that wonderful feeling when you open a brand new book. ( And in a similar, but not as intense, way, the re-start of an old favourite,}Simply put, we'd be daft to lose either way to experience the thrill of reading. |

There are books that don't fit neatly onto an ereader - especially those with colour pictures and lots of diagrams - like art books

I haven't purchased paper books as much since I got my tablet. I read during my commute so it's just impractical to lug around physical books with me. I still purchase the occasional antiquarian book for my little collection. Even graphic novels and comic books, I've recently tried the digital versions of those too. Although I think a lot of this has something to do with shortage of space - we went from a 3 bedroom house in Austin to a 2 bedroom apartment in NYC. The interesting thing is that when I do purchase a print book it's now usually in hardcover and not paperback.

I belong to two reading clubs. Many of these groups are library-sponsored which means they rely on having multiple copies available for members to check out, which in turn means many of the books are not current novels, but maybe a year or two old or more. Many of these also fit into the crack between eBook digital editions and out-of-copyright freebies. So...

I begin by searching for an eBook version. Failing that, I head for the library for a free check-out. I still buy from my only local bookstore and online if its a book I think I might wish to keep. But my usual procedure is to read it first as a free book (classic or library check-out) and then decide if I want a hard copy for the shelf. I've given away hundreds of pBooks to local libraries in recent years. |

Ebook first, paperback second, then hardback. Have no desire to read paper but sometimes it's all that's available.
