I would (and have) dispute that.

I also paid more for my 2001 Toyota Camry than I would have for a Dodge Neon or Ford Escort of the day. However, I doubt either of those other cars would still be going strong now with only two very minor non-maintenance service needed on them. But, this thread is supposed to be about the Xoom.. not about Apple's status as a religion, which is highly laughable to me. BOb |

Yes, more people would choose Apple if they could afford it, such is the power of advertising. I greatly admire Apple's superior marketing skills, they have a lock on the uninformed users. Why do most people buy Apple products? 1.)They look good 2.)They are easy to use (not a bad thing in itself -- but also the reason there are so many things you can't do with them) But the funny thing is, most Apple users actually believe they have the best products with the most advanced functionality. This is why we talk about "religion". If Apple users rationally said "my phone looks great and does what I want it to do even though it doesn't do Flash" then nobody would say another word about it. I can't count the times that I have seen iPhone users brag in amazement about some simple thing that their phones can do -- and it usually is something that a Palm or Windows phone could do in 2002 already. Back to the Xoom... @KennyC - you've had yours for a while now, so how's Flash working out? Nice and smooth when playing full-screen video or visiting Flash-heavy sites? Have you tested to see if there's any discernible impact on battery life? Genuinely interested as it's such a big selling point for the Xoom, and it hasn't launched here in the UK yet so there's little genuine user info available. TIA, Pete. |

One thing that is not working well is preview of books "look inside" on Amazon. This was posted from Xoom. |

Anyway, I think the case is, most people that choose a device think it is the best device for them, or they would have bought something else. BOb |

Cool, thanks for confirming; as time goes on I'm sure the kinks'll get ironed out e.g. The Amazon thing.

From another forum:
I think the xoom is laggy compared to the IPAD. Apps... who cares, I mean a good app for you is a dumb toy for me and visa versa. But to your point there are some things the ios does and does well regardless of how locked in the OS. It like a Home Owners Association. I would hate yp live in one but others love it as it maintains a certain level/quality of living. That being said this is Android turf so the apple folks are gonna get Android'ed. Funny thing is soon the Sammy folks will be hatting on the MOTO folks who will hate the Toshiba folks. We are all creating our own tribes. This should be a college course. |

Actually I don't, no one has yet to release a device that does everything I want it to. When someone does, I'll buy one; in the mean time my SGT comes as close as anything. The Xoom has a lot of nice features, but it's just too big, and too pricey.

If I wanted to, Tonido has an off site backup mode where you install a second server(TonidoPLUG)/NAS at a remote location, and they COOP to each other. Since I don't have a suitable location, a cost/risk analysis would indicate that Carbonite's off site backup coupled with their excellent security features (128-bit Blowfish encryption) make it the most cost effective solution I've found. Thanks for the PogoPLUG link, I'll look at it, but since I've already invested in Tonido; well ... |
