I've been saving up my Amazon dollars from swag bucks to get a light or the lighted cover, but then I had to buy a new mouse! So, let the saving begin again. :-D

K3 Lighted Case is Kind to Sleeping Spouse

I've been in the market for a light suitable for reading in bed with all other lights out -- and my light-sensitive sleeping spouse beside me.

I had a chance to trial-use the K3 cover with light last night and I'm please to report that it has Spouse's approval. With 3 LED lamps, it could be considered too bright, but Spouse reports that as long as the Kindle isn't held horizontally, the light stayed (more or less) on my side of the bed and allowed comfortable sleeping on the other side.

From my point of view, it was bright enough to read by (although I did bump the font size up a level or two), bright enough to use the keypad, and produced no glare on the page. Other concerns that knocked several other lamps out of the running were not present: weight (not significant), rechargeable (runs off the Kindle battery, no need to carry spares, no additional charging gear required), and storage (always present).

A big WIN! in my book. Placed my order this morning.

The one I have isn't. I have Amazon's K3 lighted cover and my hubby wont let me use it. It shines in his eyes so It really depends on which side you sleep on. I use my TravelFlex which I position away from him. Still it's a nice cover for night reading if he is at work or your spouse sleeps on the left side of the bed.

Uhhh. The left side when you're IN the bed, or the left side when you're standing at the foot looking at the pillows at the head?

I sleep on the left side (when I'm in the bed). When I'm reading, the light from the Kindle cover is pointing away from the lump on the other side of the bed. It works for us.

The left side from the foot to headboard perspective.

My light points toward the very large snoring man next to me. The only way I can use it is to rotate the screen to landscape so that the light points away from him which I have done but I like it vertical so I use my TravelFlex instead.

Ah, yeah. I can see where that would make a difference. I think your work-around (rotating to landscape) was brilliant.

I use the Mighty Bright TravelFlex No Gooseneck wear out problems, it's lightweight and only uses 1 AAA battery that lasts a really long time. Has to be used with a case though. Unlike the other MB light it's has 1 Led and it casts a nice light with no glare.

Although it looks nice, I wouldn't call it a Kindle light. I think that it's more of a general use light.

/Edit: I'll add it anyways

Gotta go with Blossom on this, Kranu. It might not be meant solely for the Kindle, but it's too great an option, and popular with Kindlers, not to have a place on the list.

If there were an official list, I'd pop the TravelFlex under its big brother, the XtraFlex2, if not instead of it.

I know the XtraFlex2 puts Kindle in its description, but there are issues with it - see reviews - plus it's a lot heavier. Maybe put the TravelFlex under there as "With case"?

I say all this because I did not like the XtraFlex2, but you couldn't pay me enough to let go of my TravelFlex.

Hmm all right. I'm not in any place to judge it, since I haven't owned it yet. I'll edit my original post and add the TravelFlex.

And I go back to the argument that I want a case and I want a light... I find it hard to beat the lighted Kindle case for an all-in-one solution. I don't have to deal with extraneous stuff to haul around and no batteries to keep charged, etc.

Just FYI, the items in my summary weren't listed in terms of best or worst or anything. They were just as I thought of them.

Here are some disadvantages of the leather case with a light:

- Drains battery (need to recharge Kindle more)
- Made of leather (some may think this is good, others think this is bad)
- Adds significant weight to Kindle (other lights can be detached and stowed away during the day)
- Hinge system seems somewhat insecure

I'm not hating on the case, but it's not perfect like you say.

M-Edge e-Luminator ($20) - Only works with specially designed M-Edge Covers
Actually, users on the Kindle Board forums have reported the eLuminator2 fits the Oberon cases as well, and probably works in any case with enough space to slide the flat sheeted part behind the back of the K3. I should also mention the eLuminator2 has been replaced by the eLuminator Touch, a newer model in white and graphite which doesn't have a physical switch (I'm a fan of the graphite version):

http://www.medgestore.com/products/k...natortouch.psp

I should also add that the reason I've found I like the eLuminator is because it was free! M-Edge has extremely persuasive sales from time to time, and last month, they had a half-off your second item sale that added a free light if you ordered on Groundhog Day. I bought an Antique Jacket (made of actual oiled leather), screen covers and got the light as a perk, and all for something like forty-nine bucks.

Keep that in mind if you're fussy enough to still need a light in eleven months' time!

Beyond that, I'm a fan of the Solis light as well, particularly if I were rich and felt like buying the new Vintage cover to go with it:
