Carol - I can help you on this one. This is where you will find the Kindle info:

iPhone folders\Lisa iPhone\User\Applications\95070520-8C0A-4891-9D55-D9DC881C26E4\Library\eBooks

Under Apps it won't say Kindle, it will be that string of numbers or something like it in your folders. I had to click each one until I found the one that corresponded with my Kindle app. I am assuming that number is different for each person's Kindle for Iphone app. Hope this helps.

Still getting the same error message from before and I know I have a DRM free book because Calibre would not convert it if it wasnt'.

JUST TO BE CLEAR: The only file I am copying into my ebook folder under Iphone Folders is the .mobi file, nothing else. Am I suppose to be adding any type of opf file (metadata file) in addition to the .mobi file?

There are three pre-loaded books already on my Kindle for iphone app and I noticed that in addition to the mobi file there is another file with an extension of MBP which looks like it could be a metadata file of some type.

I don't have a folder 'user'. What operating system are you using?

When I was able to get it to work, I just added the .mobi file. Now it won't work on either of my computers. It does seem buggy doesn't it.

Carol I am using Win 7 32 bit and I am convinced that this has something to do with either the ASIN or something else. I really hope I have not given you bad luck.

UPDATE: THIS IS WORKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So excited I can't believe I finally got it to work. The key is going to be re-converting my entire library so that Calibre can add the ASIN to the mix. Love this love this!

HUGE THANKS TO CAROL FOR HELPING ME WITH ALL MY QUESTIONS.

By the way, I am using iPhone Folders I found it to be a little more stable than iPhone Explorer.

Happy you got it working. I couldn't get either iphone explorer or iphone folders to work on my win 7 machines anymore. I finally gave up and tried it on an old Win xp machine and got it to load. I would love to know what the problem is.

Hi Neonbible,

I can't get it to work on Vista 64bit either. I can access the folders, but when I go to drag and drop an ebook over, I get the circle with the slash through it.

A few days ago, I got it to work on my netbook running Win 7 32bit, but now it won't work on that either. It lets me access the folders, but I can't add anything.

I have tried it on Win 7 64bit, Win 7 32bit and Vista 64bit with no luck. The only machine I got it to work on is an old Win XP laptop.

Before the App update to 2.6, I used to be able to just email the ebook to my iphone and it would sync.

Any ideas.

Carol

I know this thread got a little sidetracked, but it was great info

Anyway I just wanted to update that as others have stated yes you can absolutely sync sideloaded books between the Kindle and another device. Using the latest Calibre and manually loading the books on each device did the trick. Thanks everyone!

Yes I got it to work using Calibre and had to use DiskAid to sideload. Couldn't get iPhone Explorer to work for me. One thing to remember if using DiskAid is to go to 'preferences\advanced' and make sure 'show root path of apps' is checked. Your iphone does not have to be jailbroken for this to work.

I've been syncing my non-Amazon books for a while with the above mentioned process. I updated my iPhone to 4.3.1 (I think). I tried iPhone explorer but couldn't find the correct folder. I'll have to try some of the suggestions here.

In the meantime, I tried syncing the book via iTunes and the Kindle app. This didn't work. The book sync'ed (sank?) but the 'furthest read' didn't work. I tried emailing the book to my gmail account. When opened in Google mail, it asks me if I want to open in the Kindle App. This works great, but the sync doesn't work.

The sync works fine on my Kindle 3 and PC.

It almost seems that you HAVE to download to your iPhone. Is this everyone elses experience?

I have the latest update on my iphone and am able to sync fine. I use DiskAid. Couldn't get the others to work. If you use DiskAid, make sure to set the 'preferences\advanced' to 'show root path of apps'. Load books into the 'library\ebooks' folder. Works fine.

One thing I have discovered is after I am done reading, I have to hit the 'home' button on my kindle for it to sync to the furthest page.

I've been playing with iPhone Explorer on my W7 64 bit PC. It works, after a fashion, but I can't access the appropriate folders. Guess I'll try one of the other programs.

DiskAid has been pretty good. It's not free but only $9.90. I downloaded the trial first to make sure I would like it. As I said in the previous post, just make sure to go to 'preferences\advanced' and check to show root path for apps. I have had no problem with it.

Good luck

OMG, you people are psychic! I've been looking forward to using this feature between my iPhone and my K3 for a while now. Strolled into this forum expecting to have to search mightily through old threads -- and here you are, at the TOP of the list.

I'll be trying out your advice and instructions tonight and will report back.

Thank-you.

I agree with Carol, DiskAid worked so much easier for me than iPhone Explorer or iPhone folders.
