Serendipity House, an e-book from a small publisher.

A runaway bride and the PI hired to find her discover a rundown inn filled with senior citizens is more like family than their own.

Meg Kinsella of The Romance Studio says, "Joyce DeBacco has done a wonderful job of dealing with such deep emotional issue as mother-daughter conflicts. She does an excellent job in making you both see and feel with the heroine who feels she has never made her mom happy. We have all had the experiences she describes so accurately in the book. This book deals with all the different interpersonal relationships we have and we see Sylvie grow and become a stronger better person through these relationships. I really enjoyed this book even when I was cringing from reading some of the conversations between mother and daughter. I felt a bit like I was sitting in the corner listening."

Lynn of Red Adept Reviews says, "At heart, this was a romance, yet the story never descends into the sappy dialogue and thought processes of a swooning nymphette. Instead, it was the story of a real woman, in a real life, who finds a real relationship that includes a few heart-fluttery moments. Although, even though I am picky about romance in books, I really enjoyed the romance portion of this one. Unlike many in its genre, it offered a more pragmatic view of love in today’s society."

First two chapters on joycedebacco.com. Thanks for reading.

Where Dreams Are Born, an e-book or print book from a small publisher.

It was supposed to be a win-win situation—a safe environment in which to raise a son for single mom Vicky, housekeeping and childcare for widowed Jack. Neither one wants or expects anything more. Then Jack learns his best friend fathered Vicky’s son and now wants partial custody, and he feels threatened. He’s come to care deeply for both, and doesn’t want to lose the family they’ve become. In desperation he offers a radical solution—marriage. Vicky knows she can do worse than marry Jack, but wonders how successful their marriage would be when its only reason for being was to keep from losing her son. Add to this a troubled child with a secret about her dead mother and a vindictive ex bent on revenge and complications abound.

S. Wurman of Night Owl Reviews says, “there is a rather intriguing story involving a cast of characters that have very real problems. Life isn’t neat and predictable and neither is this story. DeBacco does a really good job of getting the reader invested in the outcome of this unusual pairing. Enjoy.”

Judith of The Book Binge says, “This is truly a compelling novel of real life and will stay with me a long time. I will probably re-read it one day soon--way too much here to grasp one time through. It is entertaining as well as deeply emotional, and it was remarkably free of those "dead spots" that seem to be in some stories--flat places where I find myself reading a sentence or two on one page before going on to the next. I think you will like this book if you like a good contemporary love story populated with vibrant characters mixed in with some mystery and suspense.”

First two chapters on http://www.joycedebacco.com. Thanks for reading.

Had another 5 star review for my sequel Final Justice over the weekend.

5.0 out of 5 stars even better than book 1!, 17 Mar 2011
By
Steven Morris - See all my reviews
This review is from: Final Justice (A Lorne Simpkins thriller) (Kindle Edition)
Final Justice is the sequel to the excellent Impeding Justice where we first meet DI Lorne Simpkins who is attempting to apprehend the killer called the unicorn. With the end of Impeding Justice it was obvious that there would be a sequel, and what a sequel it is! In my view, this book is better than the first book in the series for a number of reasons. Most importantly, Mel¡¦s writing seems to have slowed down somewhat since book one, she¡¦s trying to cram less in and the overall book benefits from that. The fact that there is slightly less edge-of-your seat action in this book means that the violence, when it does come, is somehow all the more shocking. I felt that Mel flushed out her characters a lot more in this book and I really began to care for Lorne by the end of the book.
All in all, a great second book from a superb new author. º

Hope you enjoy it.

2010 Mystery/Thriller of the Year, Rock & Roll Rip-Off

Rock & Roll Rip-Off, the second novel in my Rock & Roll Mystery Series, was selected 2010 Mystery/Thriller of the Year by Premier Book Awards. A letter that accompanied the award stated: "The competition was fierce and it was a difficult decision choosing from so many deserving books entered into this year's contest. However, the judges were unanimous in their selection of Rock & Roll Rip-Off as the winner."

Following is a brief description:

Jason Duffy thought he had accepted a routine burglary case when a career studio musician hired him to recover a memorabilia collection featuring unusual treasures from some of the top performers in the music industry. But Jason quickly finds himself at the top of a hit list that has nothing to do with The Top 40 and everything to do with a table for one at the San Diego Coroner’s Office.

While the facts of the case point to an emo band that the victim was helping at the time of the theft, the lethal force that Jason encounters in his investigation feels more like death metal. He finds himself imperiled by a hitman known as The Heartbreaker, due to his signature of shooting his victims through the heart at close range. With danger also threatening his staff and girlfriend, Jason must continue to mend fences with his retired police detective father, in spite of a recent riff that caused a major setback to their relationship.

Everyone thought The Tactile Tattoo was a “can’t miss” band. The pre-release buzz for their first CD was tremendous. But a bad review from a key industry critic, who didn’t care for their lyrics, left the album stillborn at record stores across the country. The group soon learned that second chances in the current state of the music business are practically nonexistent. One band member discovered that money talks in an industry strapped for cash, and a bribe was entirely possible. However, funding that bribe meant getting involved with all of the wrong people.

In the midst of this action whodunit, the reader is treated to an insider’s view of the music industry that captures the new obstacles that today’s bands must overcome in order to succeed. Some musicians handle the pressures, opportunities, and disappointments more effectively than others. Some still succumb to the mesmerizing allure of sex and drugs and rock & roll.

Rock & Roll Rip-Off is the second novel in RJ McDonnell’s Rock & Roll Mystery Series. Like the critically acclaimed Rock & Roll Homicide, McDonnell once again mixes humor, music, and a cast of unique characters to unfold a memorable mystery that shows Jason and a loved one “knock, knock, knockin’ on heaven’s door.”

Bestselling author calls Life… With No Breaks ‘hilarious’ and me a b*st*rd!

Bestselling author calls Life… With No Breaks ‘hilarious’ and me a b*st*rd!

Getting a positive review or endorsement for Life... With No Breaks is always a great boost, but when it comes from the best selling British writer on Amazon UK, it’s even better!

Stephen Leather is a crime and thriller writer whose hard hitting books have taken the Amazon charts by storm. There are currently three in the top twenty as I write this. He’s had the kind of impact in the UK that the likes of Joe Konrath and Amanda Hocking are having in the US.

Colour me delighted then when he said this about Life… With No Breaks:

“You have to admire any writer who can produce a book as hilarious as this in just over a day. B*st*rd!”

You can buy the book that made a best selling author swear at me here:

Amazon UK £1.75, Amazon US, Smashwords $2.80

And you can find out more about Stephen Leather’s books here: www.stephenleather.com

The author's wife would like to shamelessly promote his novel. Thanks to the kind help from folks in this forum, I've got my husband's novel up on Smashwords (although still awaiting review/approval for premium catalog) and I'd like to shamelessly promote it. He's creative although somewhat technologically challenged. So I am his ebook manager and he has to jump through my hoops (and don't think I don't take advantage...but I digress).

"East Wind Returns" is a story of World War II set in July-November 1945 which explores a very different road to that conflict's historic conclusion. The American war leaders grapple with a crippling setback: Their secret atomic bomb does not work. The invasion of Japan seems the only option to bring the war to a close. When those leaders suppress intelligence of a Japanese atomic weapon poised against the invasion forces, it falls to John Worth, a young photo reconnaissance pilot, to find the Japanese device. Political intrigue is mixed with exciting aerial action--the terror of enemy fighters, anti-aircraft fire, mechanical malfunctions, deadly weather, and the Kamikaze. When shot down by friendly fire over southern Japan during the American invasion, Worth leads the desperate mission that seeks to deactivate the device.

Hope you'll check out the sample and appreciate any feedback to his first endeavor.

Two new reviews for my novel, The Usurper, one from Goodreads and the other on B&N:

From Goodreads, from Heather, who won a copy of the paperback:
http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/126805727

This is the first Cliff Ball book I've read...and I'd have to say that if he writes another political thriller ... I'm in! "The Usurper" is a fast-paced fictional story that has non-fictional elements in it of events that really happened. Cliff makes you think 'could this really happen?' He makes it all seem possible...which is a scary thought! This book had lots of twists and turns that kept the reader on the edge of her seat throughout the book. I gave this book to my dad to read since he likes the same kind of books that I do. I'm sure he'll have a good review as well. Thank you Cliff for writing this book!

On B&N, from a reader named Linda:
http://my.barnesandnoble.com/communi...viewid=1575412

I agree with the other reviewer's statement that it is Clancy like. The characters don't have as much depth as Clancy's, but Clancy has developed his over many books. This book was very similar to current events, with a frightening back story created. This back story was, unfortunately, plausible - at least in the goal if not the execution. It builds off of the fears of the cold war and moves into the role and power of government in our lives, as well as the battle of capitalism vs. socialism. This was filled with lots of symbolism and relations to actual current events. In summary, a very good read and I look forward to reading more by this author.
