Whilst I LOVE my 350, I have been looking to buy a 650 as well (I've just been waiting until after we move). Wireless isn't something that's on my shortlist for buying an ereader, but I can see the usefulness of it as well, and it wouldn't be a reason for me to NOT be a particular ereader. I love the features of the x50s, the touch screen, the layout and software (on the reader) - having wireless added to it would just be a nice additional extra.

When I first got my 350 I missed having a wireless connection. But after finding so many nice book sites to download from I no longer miss it. Sure it is easier to be reading , finish a book & want to start the next immediately. Having wireless is nice that way. You just connect & download rather than having to get up & go & connect to a computer.....

I called Sony shop on Friday, basically to save time going there and not finding a 650. The guy said they expected a delivery mid May and when I asked if it was going to be wireless he strongly denied. Said it would be the same model. Now either they keep mouths shut on improvements or it's just what he said. My husband cannot understand why I would want another ereader - I have one already don't I? Says he the recent owner of a smartphone who barely lifts his eyes from it to answer me (he's forgiven, just bought it 2 days ago)
Wireless would be good as ever since ipad is here I use the desktop once in 2 weeks or so. |

Ah, I see it now. Five, six and seven inches. I had it in mind the 650 had was the same size as my QT7.

I highly doubt Sony will be releasing a new model so soon. What would be the point if they can't produce and stock them? If May is THE date, then the 650 would have been unavailable for 2/3 of its production run.
Perhaps the Kindle sucked the oxygen out of the room for 6" Eink displays, although Amazon doesn't seem to have trouble getting them. At this time last year Sony had some price cuts. ![]() |

I think they scaled back on purpose. Ereaders is a side business for them compared to the Playstation/Bravia/Vaio product lines. |

Yeah, OK. They scaled-back so much 650 sales have been practically zip for months. Awesome business decision.
![]() Product cycle: you release at full price, discount and then closeout for the new series. That's the way of consumer electronics. And the 650 missed most of the Christmas season at the peak of it's value by being out-of-stock. Also, I fail to see how e-reader production would have any effect on PS3's or laptops. It's a big company. |

It seems a bit pointless to armchair quarterback a major electronics company as though the executives have rocks for brains. Last edited by doreenjoy; 03-20-2011 at 12:28 AM. |

Same happened to PB this year. They have difficulties adapting to their success as there is not only the goods to be manufactured, parts to be available in the amount asked for, but also staff to be hired and trained to cope and the office and production space to be had to expand. There are a lot of things needed to work smoothly to have a product on the shelf. |
