A friend of mine was teaching in Japan and complained about not putting his feet down in the morning, he solved it by building a platform 16 inches off the floor, it had a solid top so it felt the same as if it was on the floor.

We considered doing just that, but there isn't enough room in the bedroom! We like a King size bed, and that takes up almost the entire floor space from side to side... There is room at the foot for two free-standing clothing closets and a shoji that leads into the living room.

Be creative, unless you rent. Just rearrange a few walls to suit. I kid of course. I'm sure with some head scratching and a beer or two, you'll figure out a way

When I first arrived here I was looking to rent an apartment, I figured a furnished one was the best bet because I didn't want to buy furniture and then find out I was going back to Canada. So I got a lesson in what furnished really means. I don't know what "Furnished" means in other countries, but in Canada it usually means you can move right in and not need to ad a thing, all the furniture, bedding etc. is there. Here "Furnished" means that the place has kitchen cabinets, fridge and counter top burners, a wardrobe (very small), a bed that looks like there was a satanic ritual performed on it involving a dagger and a virgin and light fixtures. "Semi-furnished" means lights and taps are installed, no kitchen cabinets or counters, nothing else in the house, in some cases no doors on the bathrooms. "Unfurnished" is an empty shell of a house that in Canada would mean that the carpenters hadn't yet finished the final work and of course there are no light fixtures, I don't mean "Light bulbs" I am talking about the fixtures you screw the bulbs into.

I have been here long enough that when I move back to Canada I'll have to fill a 40' container and ship it back.

i don't know what mood i'm in, but i am slightly upset. one of the university's political parties is campaigning, and one of their key policies is to install more CCTVs inside the campus for safety. i am just wondering where they plan to put those more CCTVs

Minor rant: My mouse is, as kindlekitten said of her dryer a few posts back, "starting to think about end of life issues."

I've ordered a cordless replacement, as I think its sporadic behavior is probably due to broken wires in in the cord, but if I disappear from the board any time in the next couple of days -- perhaps right in the middle of a conversation -- don't be surprised.

annoyed. my classmates in my financial math 1 class want to take the financial math 2 class in the summer, because they want to finish "a little earlier". stupidity, is what i say. our summer vacation is only around a month and 2 weeks long. in that span of time, they'll have 2 hours of class, mondays to saturdays, and the tuition fee for summer classes are a bit more expensive since less students, but still using resources. and on top of that, they won't be graduating earlier because the pre-requisites for our succeeding majors have a bit more required classes than that. so they're just wasting time and money. /end rant

i'm just annoyed that i might not be able to get a finmat2 class next term if they all decide to go for the summer class option.

there is a new cordless mouse that looks incredibly ergonomic and turns itself off when "flattened" out. I am drooling over it

I know! I'm a righty, but hold my ipad in my left almost exclusively. Only ibooks lets me switch it around. Kindle app at least is very responsive to left thumb fumbling, but Bluefire absolutely is not. Which is a shame, because otherwise, Bluefire would be the favorite.

Argh! At my age, just getting down on the floor has to be done VERY carefully. And getting back up; forget it, without something to hang on to to pull myself up, it can't be done!

Just had a knock-down drag-out argument with the new nurse in my mother's cardiologist's office. It's a long story, but basically she neglected to call us yesterday to give us the updated dosage instructions for Mom's blood thinner. I went to the office today to find out why, and she was incredibly rude. Then she said she had to page the doc because he was gone for the day. After about 15 minutes she came back out and said she had talked to him, and gave me the dosage. I knew immediately it was way too high, and asked her to page the doc and have him call ME. She came very close to flat refusing to do it, but when I got nose to nose with her and told her I was not leaving until she called him, she did it. He called me immediately, and I was right. (Which I knew.) I unloaded on him about the rudeness and ineptitude of the new staff member. I don't know if it will do any good or not. It was very very stressful, and now I feel like I've ruined all of Mom's good relationships in that office. Changing doctors is not an option, by the way. He somehow pulled her away from death's door when she had her major heart attack in 1996, and has somehow kept her ticking along every since. She's 90 now, and he says he's going to throw her a 100th birthday party. She loves him, and would be thrown into a panic if there was any suggestion of changing doctors. So I'll just have to make sure to keep being her advocate and doing what I have to do to keep her healthy. I just hate this part of it, though.
