what ereader is best?
I have a Jetbook Lite and do not like it as having to use 4 AA batteries makes it heavy and awkward to hold. I would like something that is light and supports ebub and pdf. Also something that has no eye strain. What would be best?

Oh boy, trying to read the second of the two document types smurfymom will leave you dissapointed when you use eReaders. Manufacturers seem to go extra mile into disabling their readers from displaying pdf's correctly. Infact, anything beyond small-font, text-only pdf will end up as mangled mess on any eReader.
They would all like to see you buy reader after reader in your quest for the PERFECT one. Short answer is: there's no perfect eReader. It all depends on the complexity of the documents you want to view. Especially when it comes to complex pdf's full of charts, tables, bullet points, etc. it is BUYER BEWARE! None of them will display those pdf's correctly. If you are sensitive to backlit screens and prefer eInk displays and have complex pdf's- you are out of luck. Sorry if I threw you off, but latest is not always the greatest... |

I personally would focus on a good EPUB reader and forget about reading PDFs on anything but a laptop, netbook, or iPad.

PDF is not an eBook format, but a digital representation of the printed page - the page in question normally being A4/Letter size. As such, it can only be sensibly displayed on an A4/Letter-sized device.
As has been said, Sony make good ePub readers. |

I also agree that your best bet currently is something like a PRS-350 or PRS-650. I say this not only because they do a better than average job of re-flowing PDF's when you do have to deal with them, but also because the OP already has a usable reader but specifically wants something SMALLER that will do a good job. If you are reasonably happy with the 5 inch screen on your Jetbook, I would check out the Sony PRS-350. Same 5 inch screen, MUCH more compact, and the touch screen interface is a dream compared to what you have now. The PRS-350 has an 800x600 resolution eInk Pearl screen that will be a very noticeable improvement over that 640x480 LCD screen you are using now. Currently Sony is trying to play rip-off pricing games with the 350 ($179 at SonyStyle), but if you can find one at a reasonable price (let's say $150 or less), then I think they are a really good value. I paid 179 USD for my 350 in the States when I was visiting there a fortnight ago. To me the price is reasonable. If you want a smaller screen....... I only have 5 inch screen devices for the form factor, lightness, and portability..... I would highly recommend the 350...now that I have used it for a week or so...

Doesn't really differentiate between readers, most all of them can do that. Please be more picky.

If the ONLY thing you don't like on the JBL is the large, heavy battery compartment, the obvious solution would be an Aluratek Libre. Same form factor with a light Li-I battery instead of the AAs. |

Well they are all wrong!
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The ereader you get depends on your opinions so check them all out. You want e-ink technology if what you want it for is only reading. But if you are going to get a new ereader, you want one that gives you options. I have a Sony PRS 505 and the wife has a 600. Please note, I am not specifically pushing Sony here but they are quite diverse and accept many formats. Granted 98% of what you might want to read will be in epub, but I have read PDF documents on the Sony and it worked great. I was quite please that Sony offered that as a compatible format. |

I own a Sony 350, and love it. It is my first e reader so maybe something better (?) Small and great to take anywhere. Can fit into a large shirt pocket. Only drawback is the lack of wifi and loading books directly from web. Not a problem for me--I load from a windows 7 computer using Sony software or Calibre. I much prefer Calibre to Sony software. I think that $179 is a bit expensive--like most Sony stuff. I purchased it during a sale for $129 from Best Buy. Same price was on the Sony site.
