It's mostly because of the font that is used on the Kindle. I find it a lot more pleasing to the eye than the fonts that is used for most epubs. I know I can change the font using calibre, but because I find it's too much work I rarely do this.

Then there's the way I hold a reader. I hold it with both hands, with my thumbs on the side of the reader. So with the kindle, that way at least one of my thumbs is on the forward button. I just push down, I don't have to move my hands at all when I reach the end of a page. With my Sony, I have to move my thumb every time I want to turn a page, or place my hands on the bottom (with thumb on forward button). Which is uncomfortable to me.

The Kindle is also more slender than the Sony. I never thought I'd say this, but I like the look of the Kindle more.

These are all very personal reasons, and I'm sure there are lots of people who prefer the Sony reader instead. I think right now I do 3/4 of my reading on my Kindle. The remaining 1/4 are either pbooks or ebooks on my Sony.

yeah, get a good sized backpack with an internal frame. your hands are always free and you don't have to worry about putting it down and having it "walk away"

I guess it really does boil down to our own little idiosyncrasies in handling and using our readers. Thanks for all the good information.

I have both a good (if smallish) backpack and duffel bag (with wheels). I want something that offers a more protection. Now leaning more towards a bigger suitcase, because I think my duffel bag is bigger than I thought. The downside is they are heavier.

My sister told me that during the yearly sale at the department store she works for they often have suitcases on sale, plus her 15% discount could mean I can get a more expensive suitcase than I originally thought. Sale starts next week so hopefully we'll get the folder soon.

Nikita has a new thing.

Downstairs in the workshop/office at the back of the store we have a little oven we use when we have something warm for lunch (heating up or keeping warm when helping customers). It's a very simple, little oven with a ticking timer.

Soon after we got the oven Nikita discovered that when it's ticking, chances are that it has something in it she likes. Not much later she deduced that when it "dings" the yummie thing is ready.

Today my father was heating up a sausage roll while he was putting away some stock high up on the shelves. When the oven dinged Nikita ran up to the stepladder he was standing on and "told" him (she is half Siamese) his/her food was ready.

Sometimes she can be so smart (emphasis on "sometimes").

It's almost time...
I'm about to make my first foray into the mountains. I'm praying that all the snow is gone and there won't be any black ice to deal with..
Here I go....
