Editing a book
A scenario:
I have a book supplied to me in a Gutenberg-like .txt format. I convert it to epub and read it. I notice several errors, both typos and what I assume are format conversion errors, but some of those could be typos too. Which copy do I fix the errors in? The .txt was the master. But I need to fix the format errors in the epub. I don't really want an out of date format left around. But I don't really want to fix both. What's the right way to deal with this? |

I decide which format I consider to be the best, fix it, then delete the other. If I need the other format, I convert the "best" format. I always keep my original unaltered formats, as they were when I brought them into Calibre, but I don't keep them in Calibre.

How do you delete a format rather than the whole book?

I would start by fixing the typos in a simple text editor that has spell check. Then I'd convert to epub and do any further fixes there.

Within calibre, right-click the book -> "Remove Books" -> "Remove files of a specific format from selected books" - then select the format you wish to delete.
eta: Or you can do it the way Ducks said. Cool. I hadn't used that method before. ![]() Last edited by Piper_; 03-14-2011 at 04:43 PM. |
