Well, my (not-quite-)mother-in-law is coming for a visit tomorrow to stay through Thursday. And then my mother's arriving the day after! Luckily they're both staying in a B&B.

So Right Now, I am taking a break from cleaning. Still have to clean the bathroom floor and vacuum tomorrow morning. Might leave that for s.other.

Hey! Good to see you. Hope you get clean soon! it is wet and dirty here. No amount of cleaning will fix it.

I have had too much coffee this morning and i feel horrible,. I am supposed to be working, but my head won't slow down enough

I think of this as the 'upside' to having house guests. It's like "Spring Cleaning" but at other times of the year. It's also the time when we find the missing: sock, key, pen, half cookie, (depending upon the family) child, etc., etc. In So.East Asia we could afford a housekeeper and a cook.

Here in Japan we can just barely afford a vacuum cleaner (Hoover?) and a dust rag.

Well, apparently I haven't forgotten everything I used to know about sewing...only most of it, LOL.
Chris finally made good on his threat to buy me a sewing machine, after listening to me complain about the price of table linens (I wanted a new table runner for the dining room). After about the sixth time I said, "But I could make that cheaper..." I think he decided that I probably could. So I found a pattern and started on me a nice new spring themed table set. I'm actually amazed at how much came back to me after I got started...it's been probably ten years at least since I touched a sewing machine.
You can see that it's not finished; I have to press it and slip stitch the end. There's also a ribbon or trim to be added between the print and solid.

@shel: i'm always so impressed with people who can sew

i really should learn the basics so i can at least do some repairs on my clothes by myself...meh, but if i mention it to my mom, she'd make me feel bad by saying that women should learn how to do it anyway @_@

This was pretty easy - straight lines. I added pictures. I'll go back tomorrow and get ribbon or trim to finish it with.

As the Pennsylvania Dutch would say, they're "just for pretty". I like them better than tablecloths - I use them both on my dining room table and on the long table by our sofa. For the one on the sofa table, it just keeps the table from getting scratched up from all the stuff we put on it, and looks pretty at the same time.

ah, i get it

our dining table is glass and we've stopped using tablecloths. we have a lazy susan in the middle and we just use placemats when we eat
