Thanks, I haven't heard anything from Gace though. From the local news reports, the worst on the Big Island was around Hilo. The other side of the island from where she is, so I think she is probably ok.

The power of the earthquake off north-east Japan shifted the earth's axis by nearly 10in (25cm), Earth-issues.com reports, citing the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology. The phenomenon is not unusual for a major quake.

It's Ala Moana (Moana Loa is the world's largest vocano, over where Grace lives), and she should be fine there. I think they only had a few inches in that area.

My house is at about 500 ft. eleavation so no problems there either. Didn't lose electricity or internet, but the cell phones were a little jambed up for a while.

I haven't actively participated here in a while, but I would like to extend my thoughts and prayers to all the members who have been affected by this disaster.

Aw, thanks, Iʻve been so busy, I havenʻt checked in for a few days. Iʻm fine. I served as a "safe house" for a friend who was evacuated.

Really? I heard the exact opposite. Hilo really didnʻt get much at all. Kona got hit fairly hard (or so CNN keeps reporting, I loved the one about the extensive damage on "kona island"). There is quite a bit of damage, with many businesses gutted with water, and their belongings strewn all over the road. The road was closed for a while as they tried to clean up debris and such as well.

This is the reason I like to live in the middle somewhere-- out of the evacuation zone and not too close to any volcano, lest a new one erupt...

Iʻm concerned for stitchawl though-- has he contacted anyone yet? I have a friend in Japan who suffered some serious injury, but was luckily out of the tsunamiʻs path. The footage is breathtaking and horrible.

he's surfaced and says he is ok. claims he was "working". he was off scuba diving and taking pictures of reefs.

good to see that you and yours are ok!
