I think the word "surviving" is about adequate. I managed to make it through a short shift at work tonight. Unfortunately, it was one that would have been challenging if I'd felt good...and I most certainly did not.

I had to call the cops - we have a "nuisance" customer that has recently been banned from our store for making sexually suggestive remarks to our cashiers, and being rude and foul mouthed. I sent a cashier out to get carts and she came back in and said he was out in the parking lot in his car, car running, lights on, but he was slumped over the wheel and didn't respond to the noise she was making with the carts. I called the night manager on duty. She tells me to please go out and get his attention. I tap on car window.. no response. Came back in and told night manager. She says call cops. (May I add here that this is HER job, not mine, I always end up being the one to call the cops when necessary, all of our night managers will hide and let me do it... no idea why). I call cops. They send four cop cars and two ambulances. Overkill, much?
It took the cop banging on the guy's window with his flashlight before he roused. Then he told the cops his wife was in the store (he doesn't HAVE a wife, that any of us are aware of, none of us has ever seen him with a woman or with anyone else). I told the cops as much and that he was banned and why. Last I heard, he was yelling at the cops and they followed him out of the parking lot.

Some guys don't know when to leave. I remember you mentioning your night manager before, same one? If it is, its time to take her aside and have a chat, maybe give the creep in the parking lot her number, can you say "Kill two birds with one stone"?

Believe it or not, I get along just fine with all of my managers. Apparently, however, I have more intestinal fortitude than all of them when it comes to sticky situations where calling in the police is required.

LOL. Our cops, by and large, seem to be decent guys. One lives across the street from us. I never see him, but enjoy visiting with his wife occasionally.

She was outside a few years ago when the tree in our yard decided to come down. I heard her screeching OVER the sound of the tree uprooting and falling. Scared seven kinds of you-know-what out of both of us. The tree ripped both phone and electrical lines out of my house, I'm trying to text Chris at work and let him know I can't come and get him due to a tree across our driveway, and she's calling the electric company and the phone company. We directed traffic until the electric company and cops got here, and then she took me to go pick up Chris (this was before he had his truck). So that's how we got to be friends.

Nothing like a natural disaster to bring neighbours together

Many years ago I lived in an apartment and had never met my neighbours, there were only 2 apartments per floor. One day I come home to find 2 police officers at my door, a man and a woman. Needless to say I was surprised, it turned out they were my neighbours knocking on my door to invite me to a party they were having that Friday. At that party I found out that half of the apartments in the building were owned by cops, or firemen. Always felt safe in that place, I later worked with most of them.
