The UK Sony Forum is full of tales of woe concerning Sony Reader Support/ Service/ Aftersales - doesn't matter what you call it, it doesn't seem to exist !
Apart from charging £28 to look at a device and say it isn't anything to do with them, and then charging to return the thing ! And as for stylus problems ? If it wasn't so sad, it would be laughable. So many people vow never to buy Sony again and junk it/sellit etc.. and get a Kindle. And most like the Sony, that's the shortsighted thing about it.......... ![]() |

I've had no problems with sony support. i called them once because of faulty EPUBs, and they were fixed within a week. Another time I called because I'd purchased something a month before a price reduction, and they gave me a $25 discount even though they weren't obligated to do anything.
Of course forums are full of complaints. No one ever joins a forum because things are going smoothly. |

If people feel obliged to complain on Forums because the manufacturer either won't listen/rejects their liability/ ignores inquiries, and in general offer poor support for an expensive item, we all should know about it, in case we are put in that position. Where else are they to go ? And often they recieve a simple answer from a contributor that Sony, for example, should/could/did and anyway ought to have known and - if they were at all concerned for their customers - simply give the information or help directly. I'm very happy you got good service from Sony - would that it was the case with all consumer problems or complaints. Then, no problems - but the Forum still wouldn't close. And, finally- it's OK, finishing soon - people do join Forums when all is going smoothly, me for a start, (sorry if I'm in a minority) and, it would seem, yourself ..........it's called finding, recieving, and sharing helpful information from like-minded others. And sometimes it is a godsend, frankly. ![]() And usually, very entertaining. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I've had mixed results with Sony support (in regards to 505 problems). I would rate their support relatively low.

What a strange thing to say. Do you honestly believe that every one of MobileRead's members joined because they are having problems? You won't consider the vague possibility that even one person may have joined because they enjoy discussing eBooks and reading devices?

Manufacturers support forums are always full of support issues, by their nature. It's very easy to misjudge products by looking at them. What you need to look at instead is how well the manufacturer responds to support issues on the forum. |

Sony does not have official support forums and they don't respond here (or elsewhere) at all. What does it say about them? Nothing.

I've had to deal with Sony support and it was just fine. No issues at all.
My mother's reader had a screen that faded in the sunlight and they sorted it out. My 505's screen controller broke and they sorted it out as well. Both to my satisfaction. |

Well, don't know about US etc.. but UK you go to My Sony, support, and it has "Discussion & support Forums" I think its called. Things sometimes get passed on to Sony, and, very rarely, an "official" Sony poster contributes, usually just on operating topics etc..
Sony maintain it's not them, but that good old get out phrase "approved". Which means they don't have to read it, comment, or take any notice, or help anyone with their Sony problems. "Sony does not have official support forums and they don't respond here (or elsewhere) at all. What does it say about them? Nothing. " Igorsk. Well, I would say it say's a great deal about them - they don't want toi be bothered with their customers ! "It was being made about Sony's support forum I think, rather than ![]() I took it to mean Forums in general, but with particular reference to any Sony connected Forum. ![]() |

Must I say IN MY OPINION before every flippin' post? Is it not obvious that the words we spout here are all in our own opinion?
sheesh. |

Yes, I think it is obvious, Doreen, and no, I don't think you have to say they are your opinion at all - 'cos they are, aren't they. And I don't anyone thought your post was anything other than your opinion, and some Forumites disagreed - with their opinions in reply. [They might not absolutely know what flippin' exactly means, but I thought it spiced things up beautifully. ] ![]() ![]() Last edited by carpetmojo; 03-11-2011 at 03:41 AM. Reason: eratum |

Of course it's your opinion. I'm just curious why it is you believe that nobody ever joins a forum unless they are having problems, because my experience is that this certainly isn't so. You really can't expect to make outrageous statements like that without having people disagree with you.
