light grey smudge under screen?

howdy everyone. i just got a nook color and noticed that there is a very, very faint light grey smudge (a 2" half-circle near the center-left) underneath the screen. i can only see it when the screen is all white; it's not really visible when there's text or other colors going on. i suppose my question is, does anyone else's nook exhibit this? if not, do you think it'd be worth exchanging for another one? thanks

Hi, coolbee, welcome to MobileRead.

I haven't noticed anything like that on my NookC. At the very least I think it's worth (if you can) going to a B&N and asking to look at other units to see if they have anything similar to yours. But I don't think they will as I've not seen anyone else having the type of issue you've mentioned. I think exchanging would probably be what I'd do.

Good luck!

thanks for the response i'm just worried that if i do exchange it i'll end up with one that has even more problems. i've been reading about other peoples' defective nook experiences, and it seems as though the screen can have MANY different (and significantly worse) issues, from flickering to stuck pixels to bright bands along the sides. yikes. i think i'll give it a week, and if it continues to bother me i'll take it back and ask to exchange it for another, but only if i can test the new one out first

edit: i just did a dead-pixel test and am noticing a few along the left edge of the screen. i'm sure this will drive me bananas, so back to b&n it shall go...

I guess I've been lucky with my Nook, coolbee, as I haven't experienced any issues like others have described. I'm in love with the little sucker, especially after I got it rooted. So I think it's worth it to exchange, and if that one has a problem as well, to keep exchanging until you get a "good" one. I don't think you'll have a problem finding one that works perfectly, though. Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

yeah, i'm definitely not going to give up on it just because i and some other folks managed to get bad eggs. normally i would shrug off such minor issues, but considering the price of the item, i think it's justifiable to try to get one that's perfect, hah. i'm very excited to have a nook, so i'm really looking forward to getting a good one!

update: i returned my defective-screen nook at the b&n store. they let me open up the box and check out the new unit before purchasing it. it's MUCH better, near perfect i'd say! i can't wait to root it

edit: aaaand of course i just now notice that there's a stuck pixel thankfully i need to go back to the mall tomorrow anyway...
