I will try to control myself for another year but it hurts I have the covers that I love and hate go have to go through the test faze again with another machine. I tell myself that for what I do I have no need for an upgrade. The screen seems the same and I'm not into the white. Lighter and thinner are nice but not needed, I don't even use my iphone camera much. |

Well, I used my negotiation skills and was able to return mine, which I recently bought cash in a store (4 weeks ago). I mean, is a no brainer. Same device, at same price but with couple of improvements. I would not do that with something I have for several months already though. Let's wait and see if it was a good move or not. As devices get more powerful you can see the trend of Apple opening more and more of that multitasking support the OS has to the user. Right at this moment, the support for limited multitasking in iOS is completely an artificial restriction based on managing the standby battery life (which I'm grateful for after being a windows mobile user), and the lack of a really good UI for managing multiple running tasks (which I'm sure SOMEONE at Apple is working on... and may or may not take cues from Android). I don't doubt that someday the iPhone's multitasking will be more available to the user though, but I'm also grateful of the fact that apps are forced to relaunch every time... it does put a lot of pressure on the devs to make iPhone apps as responsive as possible, and when we do get real multitasking, that will hopefully carry over into that feature as well.

Me too! I thought the best part of the iPad 2 announcement was the stuff about iMovie and GarageBand for the iPad -- $4.99 each (!). I have the original iPad and I love it, but (like many people, I think) I can't justify the cost of upgrading. I halfway suspect that Apple doesn't really expect to see lots of people upgrade -- instead, the iPad 2 is an attempt to snare all those people who couldn't /wouldn't justify buying an iPad without a camera or two. How many of you have heard friends or colleagues say "well, I'm going to wait for the version that has a camera"? And guess what time it is now? That said, I'm a bit leery about the short product cycle on the iPad 2. I think that the (rumored) iPad 3 will be the one that's intended to get people to upgrade. If they put a higher resolution / Retina screen on it, I will definitely plunk down the $$$. Craig |

But lots of things are like that take for instance VHS upgrade to DVD, tube TV upgrade to flat screen HD TV, DVD to blu-ray blu-ray to 3D blu-ray,LCD & Plasma TV's to LED TV's, I think if the one you got first was good enough then why isn't it good enough a year later? though I do like DVD over VHS we did that switch but none of the others. We actually have a 1080p tube TV so we could go to blu-ray..........except they changed the plug in on the back of the TV to HDMI cable so were out of luck on that and DVR as well! |

I didn't vote because I currently do not own an iPad. When I was at both Target and Best Buy yesterday they both had the iPad on sale. I held one in my hand and was sooo tempted to say "SOLD!" But then I remembered all the talk about iPad 3 coming out in September -- well I wanted this long what's a few more months!

Like many others, I'll keep my iPad. Maybe the next generation will add the retina screen. I recently got an iPhone4 and the screen is amazing. Easy to read on and I can take it with me everywhere.

We are selling our version 1 iPads through Gazelle.com. Apparently, we did this ahead of the crowd and got a very nice offer of almost $1000 for a 32 GB and a 64 GB wifi-only. I'm not sure, yet, what we're going to get to replace them - I know hubby is getting one, but he's not sure about 32 vs 64 (funnily enough, his v1 was 32 and he mocked me for getting 64!) I may wait a little while - shocking I know! Of course, if I go to the Apple store with him on Friday, I may pick one up, say "oooh, shiny!" and walk out with one My biggest complaint is the weight. I know that they haven't addressed this (much) in the new version (and with a piece of glass that large, not to mention all the batteries, I'm not sure how much they can shave off) but I'm hoping that the balance has changed a bit. I know people don't seem to find the Kindle DX heavy, and this new iPad is closer in weight and almost exactly the same thickness, so I'm hopeful. |

I took advantage of the clearance sell on iPad 1s and picked up a 16GB WiFi only for $399 at Best Buy. I'll upgrade to a iPad 3 or 4 if they make it worth the while. |

well, garage band does anyway. I can say that for sure because I just installed it! and AFAIK iMovie does as well.

Now it's sitting, in a corner, by the front door waiting for my gf to find a way to get it back to her place. We were going to put it into the bedroom because the screen is bigger than the 27" CRT that's in there, but my SO and I realised that the next place that TV is going, is out the front door! Did he ever run out of storage w/ the 32? If I didn't get such a good deal, I probably would have gotten the 16 and assumed it would be enough storage.

Nice on the Gazelle price, tlrowley. When I checked a few days ago, they were only offering $280 for my 32gb 3G model, so I'm auctioning it off on eBay. I should get around $400 for it. Got iPad 2 on order through apple store with 3-5 days to shipping. Part of the weight loss is thinner glass so may be more prone to breakage if dropped. Batteries are the same so no savings there. |

Not everyone wants or needs cameras on a tablet. Why shouldn't these be separate add-ons?

Seriously though, with 15million+ iPad1s out there, I'm surprised nobody's come up with this already <shrug>
