It's called an update. An update for something other than the Kindle 3. I know it's a hard concept for some Kindle owners to grasp, but there are still Kindle devices being used that don't run 3.x.x software.

The OP obviously noticed a change from 2.5.6/7 to 2.5.8 and would like to know what sort of changes were included with that software update.

Anyone know if this messes with the jailbreak and hacks like the 3.1 did to the K3?

Imagine, Amazon still supporting the K2.....that's good....and bad!

I just upgraded to 2.5.8 for my DXG. it doesn't affect jailbreak and font hack.

Just installed on two K2i's (feeling lucky! )...working fine, no problems with jailbreak or screen saver hacks. Doesn't appear to do anything other than change the last number of the firmware from 7 to 8 as far as I can tell.... Thanks NiLuJe for looking at it.

i wish they would tell us what is really changed in these updates. I want to know if Amazon is taking more control over our readers. I guess I am not too used to the idea of firmware updates which are so secretive. Of course the only devices I own with regular firmware updates are DSLR's and a old MP3 players. And obviously a few of them are too old for more update support.
