Do you need to supply a credit card number to get free books from Copia (like B&N)?

No personal info other than a name, no credit card. At least, to get them "purchased" into your library.

Karen, do you think Amazon et al will follow suit and offer them for free also? Im loathe to learn another reading app.

I always report the lower price to amazon. Sometimes they match (I suspect if they get numerous reports, it's more likely they will lower price), but now and then they don't. I did go ahead and get the reader software, but I skipped the ADE authorization step (since my PC is already authorized). I sync'd, then opened the library in the software, clicked on each to download (but didn't open). Then copied from the new "my copia" directory in documents to "digital editions" and added them to ADE. Open fine, there.

Personally, I rather doubt Amazon will price-match these. The non-Harlequin books are all from e-publisher RosettaBooks, which is a small, non-Agency outfit (still sold on Fictionwise) that republishes "modern classics" (non-US-PD older stuff like Vonnegut, Solzhenitsyn, Orwell, some Heinlein and Douglas Adams) and they're probably not bound by Amazon's special royalty rate rules about not having your books at a lower price at another site which caused Smashwords to go Agency. While Amazon's free to set their own pricing on RosettaBooks' books, technically, these aren't even on sale at a lower price, simply offered promotionally free with an account signup + download/install of their software. So it would be kind of like price-matching one of those "Buy a new Kobo/Sony, get copy of X book free" (Kobo did this for some stuff by Canadian authors like Linden MacIntyre and Margaret Atwood). But you never know. Maybe they will. |

Some good freebies. I really don't care for the Copia software so it'l nice to see that these are standard Adept infected ePubs. |

Sorry, I should have been clearer about how to move these to a Nook/Kobo, etc. Most of the instructions have already been given, but here's a step-by-step in case that's useful: If you don't already have Adobe Digital Editions (ADE), I'd install that first: - Download the ADE software: Link here - Install the ADE software. - Run it and go through the process of getting an Adobe ID and activating your computer. If you plan to move the files to a Nook, Kobo, etc. then tie that to your ADE software. - Plug the eReader into the computer and run ADE, if it's not already running. Wait for the drivers to install and it to be recognized by the computer. - ADE should detect the reader and offer to tie it to your existing Adobe ID. Say yes. Join Copia, get the books, and install the software: - Join Copia: Signup - The free ebooks are here: 7 Modern Classics and here: Harlequin - Install the Copia software from here: Reader download page - Once you have "bought" all the books you want, run the Copia software and register your account. Do not try to register your Adobe ID if you've already done so on your machine. Just skip or cancel that part. - Hit the "sync" button in the Copia software to synchronize with your library. This only downloads the titles and cover pictures. - Double-click each book in the Copia software to get it to download. Click "no" if it asks if you want to read it now. Move the books into ADE, and then onto your Nook or other eReader - Quit Copia software and launch ADE - In ADE, select Library->Add Item To Library. Navigate to My Documents->My Copia->Books (this is from memory; I might be slightly off). Select all the epub files in that directory and click OK. - Once the books are added to your ADE library, plug in your eReader and drag the books you want from the library pane to the eReader icon on the left side of the page. Hope that helps! Don Last edited by dmunsil; 03-04-2011 at 03:00 PM. Reason: Minor typos/formatting |

Got it. FYI, there is one Harlequin that hasn't been free on Kindle (but is a free PDF from harlequin's site): Passion to Die For ($1.77 Kindle), by Marilyn Pappano

Yep! There are also romances about cowboys, Navy SEALs, Greek tycoons, doctors, English Dukes etc. Maybe I should compile a romance index by hero's occupation... |

This be doin my head in ................ "Move the books into ADE, and then onto your Nook or other eReader" Hi dmunsil, could you please tell me how ?! Step by detailed step would be great for this technodunce (Thanks neilmarr, lovely term). There they are, sitting in my Copia Library, plain to see - could have done without another library, to be honest - but I can't get anything to do anything ! I've got my Sony , Adobe, Calibre Libraries eager and ready, but how the hell do I get the books there ? I saw someone simply got them straight into Sony Reader library without a problem - oh envy........... |

This is a little secret I've not told anyone, but the more I drink, the wittier and better looking I get. I'm at my absolutely MOST charming just before I blow chunks. You wouldn't think that is so, but it has happened every time I drink adult beverages.
