I just looked at Verizon's site and only see two prices, not the third. And I don't recall what they Costco/Verizon pricing was:

Full Retail Price $799.99
PRICE with 2-Year contract $599.99

The Costco guy had a chart that showed two data plans. Creating 3-tier pricing.

True. I got the 3GB/Mo plan and it was $150 off not $200 off which was for the 5+ GB Plan

But there was also a rebate of $35 for the activation.

one day people will stop buying into this crap. Such "plans" do nothing but show two things. One device prices are far inflated over their real value. Somewhere along the line MSRP has become accepted as the true value of things. Not sure when it happened but it did. Second it also shows just how inflated the "plans" are for phones and these data plans. First Verizon is likely paying no more than $300/device anyway plus they are getting another $500-$1000/plan someone actually pays for. And the cost of delivering the bandwidth for these data plans is around $25 for 2-years.

But at least they are offering the Xoom sans a plan. I mean computer companies tried this with desktops and even laptops from time to time and it failed every time. I suspect people will eventually come to feel the same about plans with their tablets once they start adding 2-5/household and tethering is slowly removed as an option form your cell plan under the guise of needing to conserve bandwidth due to the "proliferation" of all those tablets. Of course the cell plans will increase in price as well.

Man did I wake up on the wrong side of cranky this AM or what?

Can't wait to read some threads about experiences with the Xoom over the next few months. Helps learn what to look for in the devices I am considering.

Have they put up the updated specs now that we have the iPad 2?

why is the RAM not being specified on the iPad 2 I'm guessing they kept it at 512 which is odd since 1G seems to be the new standard.

can't wait to see the speed test betweent the two, the Xoom vs the first iPad wasn't a fair match, Xoom destroyed it. iPad 2 should be a better competition.

Still no flash, no usb, no micro SD, and still the same boring rows of tiles and the UI designed for teens and grandparents.

hurry up taxes I'm ready to Xoooooooooooooooom.

Yeah, will you please go back to bed and try getting out of the other side!

Yes, user reviews will be helpful.

I see that Verizon is also strongly suggesting phasing out their unlimited plans for the new iphones.

I'm still on Blackberry with unlimited but most months I use much less than unlimited but I don't trust them if I move to a smaller plan.

In another thread I was told no one cares about the UI. I thought I was an oddball for bringing it up. I'm in good company!

The iPad 2 had 256M ram. The iPhone 4 has 512M.

Here I agree with you entirely. With the Xoom, I will likely get the data plan, but only because I would want a data plan with it anyhow. If it saves me a couple hundred on the device then fine.

But back to your point, the kicker is that if Motorola had set the price even 100 dollars lower they would have eliminated many complaints about price and created that much more an attractive product.

I don't think I have broken 200 megabytes in a month on my iPhone except one time when my home internet was out for a few days and I used tethering. I pay for a 500 megabyte a month plan, and wouldn't bother with anything higher. Particularly with a tablet, which I will likely use less than the phone while outside the range of a WiFi connection. But who knows...

September 159
October 172
November 166
December 277
January 118

My data usage rounded up to the nearest MB since September. December we had a storm which knocked out my cable internet for the better part of a week, so the phone was tethered a fair bit. Luckily, my provider allows tethering at no additional cost. Just comes off your bandwidth allowance like any other usage.

A lot of users don't care about the RAM, the processor speed or even the screen, for many Apple users is it all about the image and prestige - the functionality is often a secondary consideration. This means that whatever the Xoom or its counterparts are capable of they will generally lose out to the 'consumer' market pull of Apple.

Personally, I take function over looks.......maybe thats because I'm so damned ugly myself lol!
