I thought about getting the WiFi-only one but I seriously couldn't justify $600 for a tablet. I was hard-pressed to spend $400 for my GTab and that was partly lashing out at Apple

Google owns YouTube, so it's more accurate to say that logging into YouTube uses a Google account.

I use GMail, and also own and moderate a couple of Google Groups and created and manage a couple of Google Sites. The same ID logs me into all of them (and logs me out of them: If I log out of GMail, I'm logged out of the other services, too.)

Personally, I find it convenient, and the ad services don't bother me a bit. I have effective ad blocking installed in Firefox, so I don't see most web based ads, and while I could suppress the text ads in GMail, I don't. They are sometimes relevant, often whimsical, and always unobtrusive.

Like everyone else, I buy goods and services, and ads are one of the ways I discover stuff I might want to buy. The more carefully targeted the ad is, the better: it means I spend less time sorting through stuff I have no interest in to zero in on stuff I do care about.

I mostly don't worry about Google or anyone else building a profile of me, because it won't contain the stuff I really want to keep private.

I know! Part of my impetus was the coming iPad2 announcement.

I didn't have so much issue with the price--not that different than an iPad but the service plan that just keeps going and going and going!!

Still I felt it was a worthwhile place to spend my tax refund and stimulate the economy.

Facebook and Google are different entities, so getting one won't get anyone the other.

As for Facebook, I have an account there, and may visit once a week or so. But I've never considered them secure, and my profile is distinctly minimal. I assume that if I put it on Facebook, it's public, even if it's supposed to be private, so I don't put much on Facebook.

Dennis, I think that it is simply the whole lay-out of the thing. I printed out

the instructions, but for me it's a matter of time.

I am spending far too much time on the computer these days, when I have a

list as long as my arm, of 'things' that need to be done.

Maybe I need to do what desertgrandma did, and just 'unplug' for awhile, and

then come back refreshed.

And beppe -- is your avatar you or should I recognize some celebrity there? It is a far younger chap than some of your avuncular advice led me to believe of you! (i hope that came out in a nice way, not a negative way....)

And the camera bit is why I bought mine without waiting for the 2nd generation to come out. I figured they'd do something like that. A camera tablet wouldn't be allowed where I work.
