most kiosk spaces in the malls here have a percentage only or a minimum plus percentage lease. at least the ones here in Oregon. At least one of the malls also requires a sales plan and if you go over the planned sales they get an extra percent on top of the base.

Also they will some times do percentage only leases for in-line stores. mostly when there are empty locations during the holidays.

The larger retailers that have inline stores and multi year leases usually pay a straight lease rate only. One mall here has lease base plus percentage for everyone but "anchor" stores.

Thanks for the correction. I am new to all this stuff. Even accounting for the correction, I think iOS really is moving toward market dominance of the ebook market.

I do not think you have any thoughts on it other than the official opinion of Apple.
The market dominance of ebook market and iOS in the same sentence is ridiculous even from an Apple rep. I am afraid you are trying too hard for your money. BTW can you post anything at all without a praise of Apple? Or Apple would cut your salary in that case?

It depends on how you look at it. If it is on the the basis of how many people who have ever read ebooks do it on iOS devices, then you may be right, due to the number of people who try an ebook on their iphones and the like. There is even some arguement as for people who are interested in purchasing a device on which they can read ebooks on, since many people would be interested in a multipurpose device. However, I find that you'd be dead wrong if you are trying to compare the actual places where ebooks are bought, since Apple's own iBooks is lagging way behind in the market place compared to the Kindle, Kobobooks, B&N, etc. When it comes to ebook sales on their own devices, Apple is losing. That may be why they took their recent action to force all sales on iOS devices to be done via the In App purchasing API, of which Apple would get 30%. It may very well force their competition off of their devices.

I can't find the link at the moment but figures were release recently which showed iBooks at about 20% and Kindle at over 40% on iOS. (Can anyone find that article, my Google Fu is seriously failing me.)

This is purely looking at eBook sales on the iPad since launch (which would exclude Kindle purchases on the iPhone or Touch), showing 29% were bought through iBooks while 40% were bought through the Kindle app.

Amazon is certainly ahead right now ( and far ahead when you add in Kindle and Android purchases) . However Apple is coming from zero 11 months ago, and ( as Ive said) its bookstore is far inferior.
However, the issue is the importance of the IOS platform compared to all other platforms. I wonder what the figuires are if we compare the ebooks sold on iOS platform compared to ebooks to Kindles, Nooks, Android devices etc.
Its impossible to know (because Amazon hides its figures)but we do know there are 160M iOS owners out there and that Apple has sold more Ipads in nine months than Amazomn has sold Kindles in 3 years.

Lets put it this way. If Apple went all out to dominate the ebook market, it quite likely could. Its not really trying right now.

Don't you know, Kenny, if it's not on iOS it doesn't matter.

Apple's ability to dominate the ebook market is going to be severely curtailed by their refusal to sell to anyone who doesn't own one of their devices.

If we assume there are 160 Million iOS devices out there - and further assume that each iOS device is owned by a unique individual - and that all such devices are still in use - we still end up with slightly over 6.7 Billion people who do NOT own an iOS device.

It's not going to happen.

This is without considering the fact that since most people don't read, most iOS device owners probably don't read - while a majority of Kindle, Nook, and other dedicated reader device owners do.
