heavyweight CHM files

hello all,
although i did not find any reference that 903 is actually been released to public, but i guess the 902 and 903 are practically the same, software-wise.
my question to all you fortunate users is, how well does it handle large size CHM files? does it render a 200mb file pretty quickly? does it show TOS, provided the file has one?
many thanks in advance

CHM files were discussed a few months ago near the beginning of this thread: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=109470. In short, they work fine but sometimes are slow to open. FBReader is used to display the books, which means that the images are only shown in 4-colour mode

thank you so much for the link and the response. I assume this means you can go around rather easily within these file types . but i also am curious whether the 903 one actually can take notes in a CHM file too
many thanks again.

You can follow internal links in the document (including in the paginated Table of Contents and Index), as well as using the hidden table of contents. Following links is probably easier with the 903 than the 902, since you can probably just use the stylus to select the link. You have to use the buttons to scroll through the links on the 902. Maybe someone who has a 903 can comment on it.

At present, note taking on the 902/903 doesn't mean what you probably think it means. You can't use the stylus or keyboard to add comments to a document. You can highlight parts of the document and take little screenshots that are then accessible via the table of contents or notes application if Adobeviewer or fbreader is used, or not accessible at all within the document if pdfviewer is used (it's buggy).

It looks like I was wrong about this. doublezed pointed out in another thread that notes can be edited. On my 902, I can type in comments to add to the note. Apparently on the 903, you can use the stylus to mark up the note image.

Within fbreader (the default chm reader), a little pencil icon and a vertical line in the margin shows up next to the area for the note. The contents of the note don't show up on the page (at least on the 902; I don't know about the 903), but you can hit the Menu button, and expand the note within the document table of contents to see the markup.

The notes are saved outside of the document, so you can't actually modify the document and pass it on with the notes inside.

thanks so much for being accurate and thorough. interesting point about note taking.
also , you mentioned you can type in with your 902, can you clarify how do yo that? i believe 902 does not have a full fledged keyboard, so putting notes means you have to use directional keypad or something?
thanks in advance

Yes, you use the buttons to navigate an animated keyboard and press keys. It is very slow (about one character every two to three seconds) and tedious. Typing more than three or four words is agony. Using the stylus with the 903 seems to be much faster because you don't have to use the buttons to navigate, but is still limited by the keypress animation (as discussed recently in this thread: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=119973).

In the same thread, it was just brought up that the markup of the note image with the stylus was for a rebranded version of the 603 (Leggo IBS) with customized firmware, and is not available on the 903. Maybe it will be, since it is probably pretty simple to implement (tying the Scribble application to the note image and menu).

thanks so much for the feedback. I believe it would not be a hugh hurdle to implement the costum firmware in an unbranded 903. i sure hope so

chm files open very slow indeed. But images are not shown. There is only a little square where the image is supposed to be.

Any idea how I can solve this??
