Using scissors to remove copious hair (see post #3) I cut around the dog at about 1 inch intervals. Time to do her again. Whenever I mention I'm going to trim the dog my wife allways says "Don't you dare cut her like that time she looked like a shar pei".

I have no idea what a share pei is, but I know how toasted bread looks like, and that is it. Don't try to disguise the fact you did inhumane things to that poor dog ! I just wonder how you managed to find a big enough toster...

I think I started life as a dog lover, but I was never allowed one as a pet. I'm now married into a whole family of cat lovers. My SIL is the only one without a cat; her husband is allergic to them.
