Driving into work today I heard reports of more survivors being pulled from building wreckage in NZ. I hope to hear even more reports on my drive home! A tiny but significant flicker of hope in this tragedy.

Early Friday afternoon I lost the love of my life. She passed away suddenly and unexpectedly due to a blood clot in her lungs. She was only 36-years old and was the most wonderful, beautiful soul I've ever known. She always had a smile for everyone she met. She was always the one to go without if it meant helping someone else. She would drop everything on a moments notice if anyone ever asked her for help.

I wrote about her here a few times, you can read this for the story of how we met.

The only pet name I've ever had for her was "Angel". I met her during a dark moment, and she effortlessly guided me back to all the brightness of life. I started calling her my Angel. She always was my Angel and now she will forever be.

I miss her so much.

Thank you all so much. I'm 30 years old and this is the first time I've lost anyone I loved. I never knew any of my grand parents. My parents are still alive. I grew up as an Army brat, so had no long-term friendships. I've never been to, or even been invited to a funeral. Some people would say I've had a blessed life, to have never felt this pain before ... I just think it makes it harder.

Nothing in life has prepared me for what this would feel like. I have such a deep compassion now for anyone who has lost someone. I finally understand.
