On GNU/Linux computers I download nothing but DRM free books.
Do you know of any sites that have DRM free books? Thanks for the name of that other one.

What do you use to put them on to your Kobo?

I still haven't managed to get ADE to work with my Kobo. So yeah might as well give up lol.

I forgot to mention hubby reminded me he had somehow copied ADE off the laptop and windows before he broke the laptop and put it on to my computer so I guess the type of file is DOS/Executable. I can still open it but the Kobo will not show up on the side where it's supposed to.

Hi

I have been experimenting with Kobo and Linux, and so far this is what I have found.

Adobe ADE will work with Wine but it will not see the Kobo. The files will have to transferred over manually, I have not tried this with DRM books.

Kobo does have a native Linux app that does work quite well, there is a post in this forum about it. I have used it to purchase books and to transfer to the Kobo, works perfectly.

Late, but I guess a few days late better than never...

...using Ubuntu 10.04 x86-64 myself...

My kobo-wifi experience:
never got it to copy content over using Calibre... looks like it gets copied, but upon disconnect it goes through the finding new content thing, however the contents doesn't show up...

Hooking it back up to the computer revealed that the files were now gone...

in the end I got it to work ONCE manually copying a file from the command line to the kobo's internal memory, after that I've been pulling the sd card and using my notebook's builtin card reader which also is working so far...

As to free books try googling, and check the BAEN library. They have some free books and ALL of their book(even purchase ones) are DRM free.

As to "mounting" the kobo, with the wifi one I have to pick the option that says "manage library" instead of "keep reading"

dunno if the SD card problems apply to the original or not, but if so we have more info in this
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=121707
thread.

(I haven't even tried ADE on linux yet... local library doesn't really have any titles that interest me and I have yet to check out some of the other nearby cities' offerings to see if they're worth paying to join...)
