I've discovered I *really* like Space Opera.

Finished the first two of David Drake's Lt. Leary series (aka RCN series) and now fully involved with a Poul Anderson compilation from Baen, The Van Rijn Method. Poul Anderson was one heck of a writer.

I really like David Drake's stuff too. And Poul Anderson's. His "The Boat of a Million Years" is wonderful. Sadly not yet available in ebook format.

It drops slightly. It was still fun, but I'm not going to rush out and buy the next one. He does have an irritating habit of telling you about his characters' thoughts and feelings in bits of authorial exposition, instead of revealing them through the interaction of his characters.

Next up: The Murder on the Links by Agatha Christie. Her third novel, again bought from fictionwise. Just over a year ago, in fact.

Just finished Time Spike, an alternate history story (of sorts), set in Eric Flint's shards universe. It was a decent read but would have benefited from another pass through editing.

Next is Play Dead, the last book (at least for now) in a really enjoyable urban fantasy series.

The fun part about Landover (and I never finished the series either) is that it's slightly autobiographical in nature. It's about a trial lawyer who abandons that career to "escape" into a fantasy world. Which is kind of what Terry Brooks did when Shannara hit it big. He's admitted that Ben Holiday is very representative of himself. I admit I have a nostalgic kind of love for all Brooks' stuff -- lets face it, Brooks and Donaldson made epic fantasy almost "cool" 1977.

I'm currently reading David Wingrove's Son of Heaven a newly released prequel to his epic Chung Kuo series (1989-1999) -- which is in the process of being re-released, re-packaged and expanded upon (the original ending was a bit rushed).

The Landover series is one of my favorites. One I highly considered re-reading when Magic Kingdom for Sale - Sold was available free. I don't re-read books for the most part. I did snag the ebook but haven't re-read it yet.

I just bought Desires of theDead, the Body Finder 2 and I am excited to read it!

I am also reading The Knife of Never Letting Go, but it has been really slow going for me. I am about halfway and I hope it picks up soon.

I just finished reading, The Lost Coast, a short story by Barry Eisler, featuring Black-Ops soldier, Dan Larison. Eisler also wrote me on facebook to tell me that I was the first one to purchase it the day it came out.
