I think the 9" is for south of Chicago. I was exaggerating for those who live further away from us (like, Australia).

Question: When you try to register a gmail account, does it say "@gmail.com" or "@googlemail.com"? I think only Germany is so long, because of someones g-mail, but I'm interested in how it looks in the world?

gmail used to be the US only designation, at least for a while (I think - but will probably be incorrect).
My son registered under gmail - but despite the routine insisting I use googlemail, it allowed me to use gmail without any problem....
