That one's fascinating - especially as Dell has always been about competing on price. It certainly shows that Apple products are no longer overpriced.

Having said that, while it makes it clear that Dell's competing on price, it doesn't say anything about whether Apple is.

The Adamo is a high end laptop (like the Air). It should not be confused with the normal consumer models which Dell is still ahead on.

Unless you buy into the ridiculous idea that the thickness of a laptop is actually relevant to its portability rather than something like weight then you could easily find a competitor by going for any subnotebook from a few years ago which would tend to be using similar speed cpu etc.

iPad's are still a "rich man's toy" at $500. Especially when you consider that it has limited usefulness. I'd like to see a study showing a breakdown of users' iPad usage. I'd be very willing to bet that productivity is low on the usage scale.

The title of the article I was responding to was, "The iPad proves Apple products aren't just for rich people anymore." So if anything your statement supports my argument, since typically sports cars are a luxury item. The usefulness of a laptop can typically justify the price, but when the iPad has no usefulness factor, then the price still seems absurd.

I think usefulness is different to productivity. I find my iPad extremely useful, if unproductive Productivity I would associate with work-related devices.
It is certainly a luxury device, and I'm happy with my purchase, even at the price I paid for it, for the amount of use I get out of it.

Well, for me, the iPad is used daily while my laptop gathers dust. I especially like it for traveling and yes, I do use it for productivity. The price is hardly absurd when you compare it to the Xoom which has just come out. No regrets on purchasing it and no, I am not rich either.
