I think that in the situation Mrscoach described there is a good employee trying to put reason to bad management. The only way to fix bad management is to remove it from the equation, but putting a great employee into a managers position doesn't make a great manager. Assistant managers in my experience are either very short term, meaning they either advance or are kicked to the curb. I always believe promoting from within is the best policy, but in some cases there may not be someone inside to full the position, this is where a lot of companies have "Assistant managers" and fail.

I am also a firm believer that you can't make a good manager, they are born, just like good leaders. You can however make a good leader a bad manager by sending them to a bunch of high priced seminars, a night MBA perhaps, god forbid they by "Management Books"

It's a no-win situation for the managers. If only they would delve a bit deeper every few months.Instead of the 'top brass' laying back on the oars, and letting others do all the hard work: trying finding out where there are weak links in the chain: either re-train them or get rid of them.

As one who has been in business, and employing sixty-four staff for many years before retiring, I can tell you this: I wanted to know who the h*ll was doing what if things didn't go smoothly.

My sympathies are all with Mrscoach. I think that you either misunderstood what I was trying to say, or I worded it badly.

By the way, I also believe that 'Common Sense and A Willingness to Learn" are far more valuable than all of the degrees in the world. I would never employ anyone solely on those credentials.

Look at politicians.
Cheers.

MC what happened to the 'Shop Mantra?'

I laugh at those every time I see them, I think though, that the answer is less humorous and they have the braille simply because in a lot of cases the touch pads and key boards on them are the same as the normal walk up ones.

I didn't post in the thread in which many people debate about kindle and the blind because there were some guys (WT Sharpe and someone whose nickname I forget) who summed up the issue so well. I totally agree with them.

But I'll tell what I think about windslash's question: I didn't see the point why a company can be sued, or blamed if its product is not available for the disabled. Alright, I know every company should think of every customer, and the disabled have the rights to do all the things a human being can do, they should be equipped and helped in many ways. But I don't think they would blame the technology which is not useful for them, at least in such a furious way as we think they would. and I doubt that the market for the disabled is that large - I myself have only seen 2 or 3 deaf people and they didn't even want to use ereader or computer or drive car or use ATM, whatever we usually think they should want to do. Which is another reason why those companies don't want to aim their products at the disabled.

I mean no offense, I'm not the bad guy, I donate and do the volunteer works. Just wonder why you still seem so unrest at the issue.

Today I got the message that my website has been moved to my new host. But weird things are going on. I can still see the website and Wordpress blog I had on my old website. I assumed that when I had moved to the new host I needed to upload everthing again and install WP. I also cannot log in to DirectAdmin. On the permanent address I get a time out message and the temporary one tells me my username or password is wrong, a couple of days ago I could log in without a problem. FTP isn't working either.

Emailed my new host and they suggested a couple of things, but none of it worked. The only thing it could be is that my ip address is somehow blocked. Waiting for an answer.

No, it's naked metal. I guess the lining is added at the funeral home. *BUT* that sounds like a very good idea! I'll think on that.....

This sounds like a DNS issue. If you haven't already, clear and refresh your browser cache.

You access your website through a URL. When someone actually tries to visit the site, a DNS server is responsible for translating the URL into the underlying IP address that will actually be used to establish the connection.

When you switched hosts, your URL stayed the same, but the underlying IP address changed. So chances are good you are trying to access the old location that no longer exists.

It can take a bit for DNS changes to propagate to all of the DNS servers around the world.

What's the URL of your page?

I don't know if it was Firefox or DNS, I cleared both and was able to get to my new new site. Still don't know why I couldn't log in in DirectAdmin but that was sorted by resetting the password.

Everything is up and running again. Took a bit of fiddling with to get the Wordpress database uploaded and the wp-config file correct for the new servers, but I figured it out. This weekend I'll clean up all the redundant files and play around with Instaltron. It's so much faster now, I regret that I haven't done this sooner.

The picture is a couple of years old, I haven't got any newer pictures of myself except for some passport pictures I am never going to upload (Dutch rules say that on pictures for official documents you cannot smile). At the moment my hair is a bit shorter and dark brown.
