You've got the second part right, you need two halves of the table to make a (w)hole. But you need a way to actually get the two halves, you'd still see the whole table in half the mirror.

And yes, I expect at least one groan.

He uses the mirror to see two sides of the room, first left then right. Then he puts both sides together to make it whole... then climbs out the hole?

This is as bad as the Daffy Duck trick!
